Default GMAT - Tips and Advice

Didn't want to hijack keenan87's thread, so figured I might as well start my own. I did a quick search and found an old thread from 2008, but I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to start a new one.

I am hoping to write my GMAT in the next month or so and I would appreciate anyone's advice/experiences.

Thanks!

I bought this book and studied for about a week. Before studying I was horrible at Sentence Correction. After studying I was near perfect, and that alone upgraded my score significantly. Really shouldn't take more than a week unless you want to score really high. 700 was good enough for me.

Make sure you try and do a practice test or something that is timed in order to check how fast you are going. When i wrote the actual test becuase i kept getting the math questions right i ended up slowing down compared to how fast i needed to go and ended up almost running out of time.

If you plan on doing your MBA at the U of C at nights I wouldn't worry too much about this test.

I'm pretty sure if you score over 50% but can afford to pay for the classes you'll get in. I couldn't believe how stupid some of the people were that I did mine with. It's all about the $$$ for the U.

If you go to the mba.com website they have a test software you can download that gives you a couple tests. The questions and format of the program are almost exactly what you can expect on test day.

I scored a colorful 700 on my gmat.

Heres how I did with 3-months work:
First take a baseline exam, from the official gmat guys, there are 2, so save one for when you think you are ready.

In the official OG 12 book there are assesment questions, take those find your weak spots.

For your weak spots by the appropriate manhattan study guides and study them throughly, you will master them in no time.

Start taking a free-exam available from multiple companies online once a week, no more. This is more for exercise and stamina building as these exams don't fairly represent the official exam.

Work the OG guide 12, the verbal one and the math one.

Get a kaplan book (any will be fine) and just work through it.

Revisit a few OG questions.

Last 3-weeks. do all the official exams you have'nt and repeat 2-3 teams since they question pool is large you won't see repeats.

You should be GTG after this

Yeah, I was trying to remember where I found that software. Highly recommended, because it gives you a chance to see exactly what your test is going to look like, and also shows you just how fast you have to finish the questions.

I ended up guessing on my last 3 math questions because I completely ran out of time, so remember to keep your speed up through the whole test.

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone for their advice! I wrote the test on Thursday and was able to score a 650. I only needed a 550, so I was quite happy with the result. I gave myself about 5-6 weeks to study, so I didn't spend too much time studying.
