Unsecured police firearms in hockey change rooms
hey CP
i'm hoping some of you that might be members of law enforcement could explain this one to me....
tonight after hockey, i'm walking out of the arena with a buddy of mine and in walks a cop - in full rcmp gear with a hockey bag over his shoulder and a stick in his hand.
he heads to the change rooms where i assume he got ready for an 11pm game.
now here's where i'm confused... it looked like he came right from work - he had his rcmp uniform on, still had on the bullet proof vest and had his gun in its holster. is it common practice to leave a fire arm in a hockey change room?? it's the first time i've seen it! i have no clue if the gun was loaded - my buddy and i were both sort of shocked

**i'm not sure that it makes a difference with the rcmp (being that it's a national police force and i'd assume they'd have a nation wide policy on something like this), but i'm in BC

Dunno about any policies, but my Dad is a retired cop and I know they'd have guys in uniform show up for league games.

There's a local RCMP guy that shows up everyday at the pool I do lane swims. He always shows up in full uniform but i've never seen walk in with his firearm.

Well if the NRA has taught us anything its that the best way to keep violence out of hockey is to have all the skaters packing heat, possibly the NHL should consider this as an answer to concussion problems.

Someone please change the title of this thread to "Unsecured police firearms in hockey change rooms". "Police fire arms in hockey change rooms" makes this thread sound a lot more promising than it really is.

They will have a small safe and a cable lock. The firearm will be secured in that. The dressing room is also locked and the Cst will hold the key.
Some arenas also have standard lockers to secure the firearm.

I think CPS allows it's officers to take a certain amount of time DURING a shift for personal fitness.

Sounds fair to me - we use our breaks at work to use the free gym supplied here.

NESS now has steel lock boxes on the benches (or at least they did on Tuesday night). We asked the rink rat what they were for and he said the cops were playing and they lock their artillery in there.

What they do is disable their firearm and take a part of it with them to the bench. They also bring their ID badge to the bench too.

is there a way for me to change it??
i go to my first post and hit edit, but it doesn't look like i can change the title...
also - i wasn't sure that the fire arms were "unsecurded" so that's the reason i didn't put it in the thread title

Now, maybe the crowd will be reluctant to yell "shoooooooot" on a powerplay, in case it is misinterpreted!
