Half of Slave Lake is on Fire
I just heard from a friend who's from Slave Lake, AB and he says half the town is on fire and the place is surrounded by massive forest fires. That's pretty bad. I hope everyone is okay.

Wow, that's not good at all. I wonder if they're able to get the fire helicopters from BC to help.

So the Facebook page is the only way they have now to communicate to people in the town? Insane!

Sounds like my friend lost her childhood home - she lives here in Calgary now, but her parents live in Slave Lake still.

Despite all the destruction, it is always truly remarkable how strangers band together and help each other out in these situations.

Mostly everyone has already evacuated.
I bet by now most of the town is on fire given the delay of information.

I can't imagine how they could get this fire under control now.

after living thru the fires of 2003 in kelowna (250+ houses burned down) it just makes my stomach sick knowing what these people are going thru - it's really hard to put into words
as long as everyone makes it out ok that's what matters. it sucks when stuff burns up, but in the end it's only stuff, not life
