Default Habs deal again: Toews gone

To Montreal:
Pavel Datsyuk
Jared Cowen
$1,500,000 cap space (2011-12)
$500,000 cap space (2012-13)

To Philadelphia:
Jonathan Toews

Really didn't expect to be trading Toews, but got a good offer, and this took very little time to complete. Datsyuk is older and more expensive, but Cowen is a great prospect who will get lots of playing time on a weak Senators roster.

Wow Toews finally moves. Seems like a fair deal. Like it for Philly because Toews has many more good years in front of him while dats should start to fade.

Good deal gents.

Pavel Datsyuk made a statement shortly after the trade proclaiming his exhuberance to be dealt to a real contender and be reunited with GM Superfraggle, who gave him a steady home in Toronto several years ago, after having been traded over and over again by unscrupulous GMs. Datsyuk expressed the hope that this could become a similar situation, and he could stay put for a while.

When asked to comment, GM Superfraggle expressed his excitement to have Datsyuk on the team, but would not say how long this was likely to be.

I am pleased to see both players staying in the East!

Yeah I like this more for Philly...but at the heart it is the type of "something now, something later" deal for Montreal that ensures they stay competitive while potentially improving their chance at a cup this year.

Yup, didn't take long. Made the offer and it was accepted.

Toews and Getzlaf down the middle means Philly will be competitive for number of years.

Habs suck! Datsyuk sucks even more!

Number of years? you can't hold on to a player for a couple months, let alone a couple years. they'll be flipped by February.

Since this trade: in the NHL Cowen has 1 goal, Datsyuk has one assist, Toews hasn't even managed to step on the ice. Just saying.

Is it too early to call this trade a win?
