Default Ford Introduces "Do-It-Yourself" Car...

...and they are starting with their classic, the 1965 Mustang.

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/ford-rei...5-mustang.html

You get this for $15,000 (US):

What you do with it is up to you.

While it's not something I would do personally, I know several folks who would really be into this. A couple would restore it quite faithfully, and some would take it in some crazy directions. This seems to be a good idea, to me, on Ford's part. Certainly an interesting marketing direction. I'm curious to see how this plays out.

THAT, is seriously cool.

Offer a '65 fastback build kit, and I am in.

Better yet, if Dodge offers up a '70 Challenger kit, I am quitting my job, restoring it Vanishing Point spec, then offing myself in it into 2 bulldozers, Kowalski style.

This is a great idea.

Except if you already own a minty 1965 Mustang. Then you're probably all like 'WTF Ford?!'.

This isn't new, Ford has sold 'bodies in white' for years.

Yeah but the fact they haven't done it with classic models until now is the point.

Straight from the OP

Quote:
The company already offers metal bodies for Mustangs from 1967 through 1970, and has been in talks with Ford to remake the original body of the Ford Bronco. There's still life in those old horses yet.
