Sorry for starting another political thread, but is anyone following this?
The governement is about to announce the winner of 2 large ship building contracts:
- $25 billion for naval warships
- $8 billion for supply vessels and other non-combat craft
There are 3 bidders in the process:
- Vancouver
- Halifax
- Quebec
As one of the largest the largest military procurement in modern Canadian history, the government has been trying to keep this as transparent as possible but you know that the losing shipyard will be complaining. To be fair though, the ship yard that misses out is able to bid on a third smaller contract (2 Billion) that'll be tendered later.
In terms of transparency, the governement has hired indepedent monitors to ensure that it's a fair and unbias.
Harper's trying to avoid the f-18 furor when Mulroney awarded the engine contracts to Quebec even though Winnipeg was the recommended bid. Either way, I'm sure this is going to get political
