Focusing on Ice Cream Sandwich for a tick, Android 4.0 will bring "an entirely new look and feel to Android," boasting a redesigned user interface, bolstered multitasking / notifications, full-on NFC support and a new People app, which enables users to browse friends, family and coworkers' photos whilst peeking their status updates from Google+. ICS also introduces Face Unlock, which taps into facial recognition protocols in order to unlock your handset. And then there's Android Beam, an NFC-based technology that allows you to "quickly share webpages, apps and YouTube videos by simply tapping two phones together." According to Goog, the "lock screen, home screen, phone app and everything in between has been rethought and redesigned,"

It looks amazing on paper! That HD display will be phenomenal. Bad thing is it's almost a cm longer and half a cm wider than my Galaxy S.
Pretty excited about it, but have to actually hold it before I can see if it's too big for me to buy and use.

Interesting updates from press conference:
-Supposedly Google/Samsung designed the phone hardware and software to work together seamlessly
-1.2 Ghz processor must be a new one, as was supposedly specifically designed for multi-tasking and smooth performance
-"Most colorful display and highest contrast ratio of any screen (100000:1)"
- "We believe that when you compare it with any other device with a 4-inch screen or greater, you won't find anything as vivid." .01ms respone time, too. No blur for gaming.
-Bezel is just 4.29mm.
-Five megapixel camera on the back. It'll do 1080p and has "zero shutter lag" -- less than a second.
-Notification LED

Releasing in November in some parts of the world.
Will add any other exciting updates.

Damn, that phone may be just a little too big at initial reaction. The S II is big enough as it is.
Almost can be more of an Mini-Pad then a smartphone.

Ics is looking pretty awesome in the webcast. I have a hard time seeing how anyone can't say this is the best phone period.

-" There's a new tab browser, which shows a live preview of each one. Up to 16 tabs is allowed, and you can just drag and toss anything aside that you don't want."
-"There's a new option called "request desktop site" that will immediately pop you over to the full site. And the browser now syncs with your Chrome bookmarks!"
-data usage tracking built into the OS
-"In settings, you can view a Data Usage section. There's a chart for overall usage so far, along with a prediction of what you'll use before the end of your billing cycle. You can zoom in at any section and view the apps that used the most data during that period.
-"We're seeing how fast the camera is, demonstrating the "zero shutter lag." This thing looks like it will definitely give the iPhone 4S a run for its money, when it comes to speed at least. Quality? That remains to be seen."

Another thing that's coming up is Bumptop! That should be interesting for the ICS in general. I wonder how that'll look like.

Looks like a solid phone. Unfortunately I will probably have to wait a while for the ICS update (unless I root my phone).

What the hell? Is this the Nexus Prime? Or is that something different?
So we have the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy SII, Samsung Nexus S and now the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?!
Is this supposed to be like a hybrid of the Nexus and the Galaxy? Or are they just getting really lazy with their naming?

specs seem pretty disappointing at first glance. my GS2 has the same CPU speed and RAM, and a better camera. the only thing the Nexus has that i would want is a notification LED. plus the GS2 is about as big a phone as i would want to have
color me unimpressed

Yeah, this is the phone that was known as the Prime at one point. This is the next Nexus phone in the line that went Google Nexus One (made by HTC), Google Nexus S, and now Google Galaxy Nexus. The name Nexus S2 probably would have made a lot more sense. The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant/Captivate/Epic 4G/Fascinate is followed by the Samsung Galaxy S II - that is Samsung's own line, per se, with their own software tweaks. But they've also successfully bid for 2 consecutive Nexus devices. And of course the two lines are going to borrow parts from each other, they're basically the same phones, just different software.
Keep in mind this phone is barely any bigger than the 4.3" S II because it lacks buttons at the bottom. If not for the curved display there would barely be any difference. General impression I'm getting from some folks on Twitter is that Ice Cream Sandwich is great, but the specs of this device could have been better. I tend to agree. For current SGSII owners, as long as we get ICS within a reasonable timeframe, there's no reason to buy the Galaxy Nexus.
Estimates for the Galaxy S III next year are in the neighbourhood of a 12 MP cam, 1.5-1.8 Ghz Exynos, HD display, NFC, etc... basically what this phone should have been. But if you're looking to buy a phone right now and have anything less than the S II, this is the obvious choice. Though the new RAZR at $149 on Rogers might sway some people.

Yep, like I said, prior to today the Galaxy SII was the best phone available, this phone tops it a little bit, but nowhere near enough for SII owners to upgrade. But IMO the SII was so far above everything else they couldn't top it too much because they want us SII owners to buy the SIII.

The size doesn't phase me.
With all the <removed> I chose not to carry around with me, having a larger phone that can do much of the stuff all my other gadgets can do it pretty awesome.
They should have called it the Nexus+ because that would have just been the cat's ass.... or a stark reminder of what a failure G+ was.

The main purpose of the Nexus line is to be a test platform for Android development. I`m not surprised by the specs, considering the Nexus S was basically a Galaxy S without the SD card slot. The biggest plus for consumers is getting updates first. I believe the original HTC Google phone is still getting updates in spite of being long in the tooth.

Another perspective on the design of the Galaxy Nexus:

Now that the Galaxy Nexus has finally been unveiled to the world, Samsung has admitted that the device was specifically designed with the thought of bypassing Apple patents to help avoid those lawyers we’ve seen so much from as of late.

I wonder if they've patented the whole curved display thing so they can sue anyone that tries to do that, ala Apple's "we've got dibs on rectangles" strategy.
If I was eligible for an upgrade, I'd be all over this phone.

I wanted to get a nexus phone a while back, but the guys at otterbox cannot find a way to make a defender work on the curved screen. The curved screen seems like a bit of an unnecessary feature to me.

This is actually only 1.27cm larger than an iPhone, slightly thinner, and lighter.
I really hope Telus gets it, that screen is gorgeous. Android looks to have matured with Ice Cream Sandwich...looks very polished.

The thing about cameras is that megapixels really don't tell you a whole lot. You can have a 5MP camera with great sensors and lenses that takes much better pictures than an 8MP or 12MP camera. Unless you're blowing your pictures up to poster size there is no need for such a high megapixel count. By all accounts the Galaxy Nexus takes comparable pictures to the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II. I'm sure we'll see some comparison shots pop up as it gets closer to November.

Have to agree with the megapixels thing.
I have a super old very expensive Cannon Digital Camera, one of the first ones that came out and it was a 2 megapixel camera, and it takes better shots then new 10 megapixel cheap cameras. In fact for about 4 years i used it for shots of my graduation, trips i went on etc, and it took incredible photos.
