Buying tires in town
The collective brain trust that is CP...
Where do you buy your tires? Not looking to order online and then pay shipping unless theres a smoking deal to be had. Good retailers here in town?

If you are looking for performance high end tires Bob is your man. If you are looking for cheap tires (no name chinese or various other oriental countires) I had great experience at integra tire and would recommend them

I thought Michelins @ Costco was the consensus best deal.

www.tiretrends.com the savings more than cover the shipping. No duty either because they ship from maple ridge.

It's on their website, which I saw mentioned in the winter tires thread.

Call them!
They get swamped this time of the year in emails. 100x easier to talk to them over the phone. They have a north and a south location so call which ever is closest to you.

Hello,
Thanks for the inquiry!
Unfortunately due to this extremely busy time of year, I am unable to answer all of the written requests for information. If you find you are not getting an answer in a timely manner, please call Lorne or Bob at 403.769.1771 or feel free to stop by our store located at 1303 44th Ave NE, Unit 6, in Calgary...
Best regards,

Exactly like it.
If I have to go there that's fine, although I'd probably just buy it on my side of town instead of making a trip over there to get a quote. It would be nice if either their website or that email had the store's hours though...
Interesting. Either you got the same email, or you're the one who sent it...

Got the same email, I followed the directions in the auto response: called them and got a quote. I just didn't see it as "we're too busy to quote you on new tires", as you put it. I thought it was odd given the customer service I received.

So looked at both Costco and tiretrends (it is for Michelins) and the quoted price is a whopping $3 difference between the two, where the Costco includes the installation

I'm not surprised, it's costco after all, they don't have much if any mark up.

I probably will end up calling, but it definitely says they're too busy to get back to written requests. Which is a bit weird, you'd think it'd be faster for them to quote via email vs the phone. I have every piece of information they'd need in the email I sent them, so they'd be doing the same work as if I phoned them, but with all the information in front of them instead of having to get it from me verbally one piece at a time. Plus it's more convenient for me, the customer...

You may still get a quote via email. I thought the auto response was a nice courtesy, instead of waiting days for a quote. The time that you took to reply to me in this thread you would already have your quote if you call them.

"Unable to answer all of the written requests" suggested to me I wasn't getting a response. Maybe I misinterpretted or it could have been written better.
If they do eventually respond to everyone something like, "We have received your email and will reply in detail as soon as we can, otherwise call us at xxx-yyyy or drop by during our business hours of x:xx-y:yy"
It's not a huge deal and I wasn't trying to knock their service, which is reputedly excellent (why I contacted them in the first place).
And to the OP: I was surprised how good the prices were at Canadian Tire when I talked to the tire centre manager and asked what he could do for me.

Costco is tough to beat on price however you cant make an appointment and you have to be there first thing in the morning to line up otherwise your not getting in (during busy days leading up to winter anyways)

Ahhh, that's what I thought your intentions were. I couldn't figure out what the issue was. I see what you're saying.
