Heat vs Rockford game #1
Rockford leads 3-2 after 2.
Back and forth hockey with the Heat controlling most of the first period then Rockford carrying the play in the second.
A lot more exciting hockey than last year.

Rheault with the tying goal and then Nemisz with the winner early in the third.
Way to go Heat!!!!!!! 3-0 to start.

How is Nemisz looking as a whole? He seems to be off to a good start and beginning to turn in some of that offensive potential we were expecting from him.

Sorry ! I would have joined in on the thread but I was out and didn't get to listen in tonight. Will catch the next one with y'all.
Go Heat Go.
Kirant - I think he's seen his linemates improve drastically. We've been waiting for a breakout year from Nemisz, and with 4 points in 3 games to start, this might be the year for him. He sounded dominate in the first two games.

Nemisz is leading the team with 2 goals and 2 assists. How he actually looks this season, I don't know but he seems to be the kind of player you don't notice until he's in on an opportunistic scoring chance. IIRC someone compared him to Moss but he seems to have a better scoring touch.

Just got back from the game. I have a few notes:
A very nice crowd there tonight. 5450 people (and of course very loud because there were $2 beers).
There were 6 NHL scouts there tonight. One from the Red Wings and the other from the Panthers. Didn't see who the others were. I guess the Florida scout didn't want to sit with the other scouts so he came down and I ended up sitting just about next to him. He got up and left and left a some papers behind, so I took a little looksy.
On one of the sheets was a lineup of the Heat and Rockford. He had circled the following players:
- Krys Kolanos
- Quintin Laing
- Paul Byron
- Mitch Wahl
- Ben Walter
- Dustin Sylvester
- Jordan Henry
- Ryan Howse
I'm not sure if that's who he was focusing on or what, but he was definitely scouting the Heat, not Rockford. He also had a notepad that he was writing notes on, but he wrote in like size 4 Ariel font haha. Couldn't read it. Anyways, discuss all you'd like. That's all I could see.
As for the game. It was very exciting (after the first period). The Heat played very lazy for about half the first period. The rest of the game they played as well as the Flames did against the Canadiens the other night. They were forechecking and backchecking very well. They were forcing turnovers so much that the Ice Hogs had NO sustained pressure for the whole third period.
The reason they had no sustained pressure was because of two very quick goals (within 46 seconds of eachother) by Rheault (from Desbiens and Mikkelson) and Nemisz (from Sylvester).
Nemisz was the best player on the ice all game. He was fast, strong, and very good along the boards. His puck handling skills are unbelievable, not to mention the way he can dish the puck. He really is an all-round player.
The lines tonight were:
Sylvester-Walter-Nemisz
Desbiens-Byron-Rheault
Bouma-Laing-Meyer
MacMillan-Patterson-Howse
Piskula-Brodie
Wilson-Mikkelson
Breen-Henry
Irving
That first line was nuts. Sylvester is surprisingly strong on the puck and fast as hell. He got a couple of breakaways tonight, along with Byron and Rheault.
I didn't see Howse or MacMillan on the ice after the first, but they were on the bench. They may have gotten one or two shifts, but I didn't notice. They were both awful tonight. Slow and unmotivated. Oh, well one game. They can turn it around.
Anyways, awesome game tonight. 3-0 so far! Go Heat!
Edit - Oh, and Henry got a stick in the face late in the 3rd period and didn't return.

They'd better be careful phoning it in (Howse and MacMillan) because Bancks is going to need a roster spot when he comes back from injury, and he's not the type to phone games in.
Thanks for the superb writeup PMM

The Heat seem to be doing good so far, Wahl needs to be playing somewhere though.

Dedication, I like that.
I guess this is pretty obvious but not only Bancks will be wanting a spot, Kolanos too and maybe a couple more forwards and a defenceman from Calgary will be coming down when Backlund, Morrison and Carson return. I could see a deal happening, so the reason for the scouts checking on our players. At one time we were cap strapped but now we are reserve list strapped with out 49 contracts.

Yeah, actually, that pretty much looks like him. Except for he's pretty much bald now. Same face though.
That's pretty interesting then.
