Boise WR suspended 4 games for driving a beater
Quote:
• Well, we knew it was "improper," but not like that. Adding to the lamest string of "improper benefits" on record, the NCAA revealed Wednesday the shocking excess that led to the suspension of Boise State receiver Geraldo Boldewijn: Use of a 1990 Toyota Camry with 177,000 miles on it, along with driver's insurance coverage. Total value? $700, the amount Boldewijn was forced to pay to charity to restore his eligibility, which presumably included the pine air freshener hanging from the rearview window. Speaking from personal experience as someone who once drove a 1990 Toyota Camry with an odometer topping 100,000 in high school and college, I say with great confidence that Geraldo is the charity.

The NCAA is an insane money making machine - the players, a lot of whom come from poverty, can't even live on the stipend that is afforded to them, even when they have a "full ride" scholarship.
You can't get a PT job, because of your sport commitments.
And if you're parents are out of money? What do you do?

Of course not, all these other sports like Wrestling, swimming, lacrosse, even hockey totally cover their own costs with the huge revenues they generate!

The ACC just signed a new deal that will increase revenues for each member institution by approximately $13mil. Now I know that's different than the NCAA making money, which I assume was your point, but let's tell the whole story here. The NCAA itself may not be making money, but the member institutions sure as hell are.

Yes, and this money pays for womens basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Track, baseball, gymnastics ect... Like I said before this post that only 6% of schools make money on the entire athletic department.
If people want to complain about the money that schools make from tv deals than don't watch the games on tv. This drives the prices up since the networks are being held at gunpoint to give up so much money.

Yet Trent Richardson drives around in a 40k Yukon on 22's and lives in a 200k house when his mom is well below the poverty line. This kid and other on Bama's roster (and every roster in the NCAA) get away with such lack disregard to the rules and the kid from BSU gets hammered.

I find it hard to watch NCAA football any more because of the corrupt system they play under.
The entire NCAA system needs a complete overhaul.

And yet what happened to Miami and Auburn, basically zip. You have Cam Newtons father admitting he wasn't going let his son go there unless he got what he wanted.
You have Miami where they have concrete proof that pimpish booster was even on the damn ledger.
NCAA is coming down on little Boise State because Boise is constantly knocking on the door for a National Championship. JMO.
