Default Hockey coaching help RE: goalies

I'm an assistant coach of a peewee team, and I've sort of assumed the role of goalie coach. None of us on the staff have any goalie experience, so I've been relying on YouTube videos for drill ideas. Are there any goalies on here who can help me out with some tips, or good sources on the net for infor that might help?

Thanks.

I might try striking some online conversations with the guys on the School of Block website. They do some casual scouting for money and probably would give you some hints.

Man, we had our first game of the year today at the same time as the Oilers were practicing. They were all out getting autographs on their sticks...their game sticks, LOL. To say the least their focus was NOT on the task at hand this morning!

i am in the same boat as you, except for the fact that my son is in his first year of atom, and i have been paying attention when he was at hockey school.....

since it is early in the season, get them skating, doing shuffles, t-pushes, and the ever popular duck walk - pull them out of the crowd in the early part of practice when the rest of the eteamm is skating and get them to do these drills.

i should also note that there are some good books at chapters

http://thegoalieguild.com/ and http://www.goaliecrease.net/ are both good, goalielife is good as Scott Battram who owns the site makes equipment, Goaliecrease.net just got Mind The Crease which has alot of tips

If you don't mind buying a book I"d recomend this one.
http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/...ng&ikwsec=Home

I bought it myself and have found it very informative, and has helped me tighter up certain parts of my game as well

they may not have been too focused, but i bet they had fun. which at the peewee age is still very important. any drill at this age should be fun and build/emphasize basic skills like skating (footwork, sliding, up and downs...) puck handling (rebound control, stick play and stick positioning..)

when my wife and i were in calgary this past summer we were in a sports store that sold 'coloured pucks'

as a joke i bought a couple of white ones to use in warmup for my men's team.

i have a love/hate relationship with those stupid things... i hate them becuz they are so hard to 'pick up' when a guy wires it at you, but at the same time it's really helped improve my focus/reaction time!

here is one that I cannot stress enough. Coaches who dont know anything about goaltending should read this to help their goaltenders....
