Default HD issue

Hey Everyone,
I recently switched over my IDE drives to Sata drives as I upgraded to a new computer that didn't have enough IDE cables.....so I used Windows Transfer wizard to put the data on my external HD, and had some issue's transfering the first time.....I fixed the issue and transfered a 2nd time a now my drives are showing the wrong amount of space left....my C: Drive is a 160gb that is currently showing 121 gb used up, and only 34gb or so available.....when I do a comparison on the drives there's only about 15gb of actual files.....same goes for my D: Drive which has 108gb used and only about 80gb of actual files.....has anyone ran into this issue? I did have to re-install Windows XP before the files were transfered over if that helps.

Thanks

The Windows transfer wizard only moves a few files (documents) and user settings. It is not a perfect copy of your entire harddrive and you may be missing a lot of files.

If you are transfering to Windows 7 from XP, the default "Shared Files" settings pull everything from your C drive that isn't there originally (ie Windows, Documents and Settings or Program Files). On top of that, each user profile selected will have their files and settings from within the User folder converted and transferred.

The only reason significant files would be missing is if he intentionally deselected them.

Given the OPs description, my initial thinking is that the MIG file corrupted somewhere along the way.

going from XP to XP, and does seem like something is corrupted as there is not way it should be taking up so much room
