Default Clifford Olson dies

http://www.bclocalnews.com/surrey_ar...130270738.html

Several reports coming out that notorious child killer Clifford Olson is dying of cancer and isn't expected to last more than a few days.

I had a dream last night about being called for jury duty and had one of the lawyers ask me if I was against the death penalty. I am pretty sure I answered, "Not if your name is Clifford Olsen."

Anyway, I think that of all the ways a guy could die, I couldn't think of a better way for him to go.

Good...very good. It will truly allow his living victims to move on a bit further with their lives.

He is one of the best examples of why i sit on the fence when it comes to the death penalty.

And before one of the bleeding hearts comes out of the woodwork and starts wondering how one human can have so little empathy for another...i dont consider Olsen and his ilk human, therefore its really quite easy.

As much as I would like to see them withhold any pain medication, and let the f%%ker die screaming, while knowing what kind of suffering he passed onto his victims with his killings and his games, the world will be a better place when he goes, and the sooner the better.

Would have preferred he went in 1981 so my tax dollars didn't keep him alive. Or preferably before he killed 11 children.

I think about how much pain he's in right now...and then I think he should be body-slammed on broken glass, doused in kerosene and burned alive.

Obviously I've heard the name before, but had to wiki him to learn what he did.

I realized I was only 6 at the time, thats why I don't remember anything about him.

Then I realized that's the whole point ~ I was six, just like those other kids.

Burn in hell b**tard.

Hopefully they can find a way to keep him alive as long as possible so he can suffer a bit longer.

Good riddance.

This got me to thinking. When he was diagnosed with cancer.... did he get the option of chemo or radiation? Just curious if someone who is serving a life sentence gets that option.

Of course they do, its the humane thing to do, and B the state wants to see you serve your sentence.

Its similar to suicide watch on a inmate in the death house on deathrow.

The state would be severely pissed off if you killed yourself before the state could kill you.

I read all these posts thinking he was the Notorious B.I.G. killer. Was thinking to myself, such passion for a rap beef...

I was talking to an ex prison guard the other day and its sad what inmates receive from the government. He said it costs 80k a year per inmate to house in a prison. and the things they "have to" receive.

3 meals a day... Even if they dont want to eat, the meal has to be available and cooked. Therefore at the end of the day it all goes in the garbage. It can not be donated to a homeless shelter etc.

He told me about the gyms and weight lifting equipment that is better then almost any high school gym, and the prison he was working at had 3 gyms.

cable tv, free healthcare, free schooling, etc etc etc...

Its hard to believe how well prisoners are treated in Canada.

Now I am all for rehabilitation, but Im also all for the death penalty. Thats more money then like 90% of Canadians make in a year...

And in the US, where they have the death penalty, it costs significantly more to put an inmate to death than it would cost to keep them in prison for the rest of their life.

Having the death penalty available doesn't mean that the government would save money.

I have an uncle the same age as me who said he liked going to prison for the same reasons as above . . . . three square meals a day, didn't have to work (his favourite activity) and lots of television.

However, if you're a normal dude, you're still confined to a small area with a bunch of crazy psychopaths . . . . . so I'm not seeing where all the sunshine is.

And the sex, you can have all the sex that you want.

However . . .

And I would think that the death penalty costs are all related to the appeals process and length of time it takes to hold a convict.

So wouldn't that be an effect of the legal system more then anything else?

Jail is jail, they get the same type of cells, the same food but less privliges then normal inmates.

It is, but prisoners aren't getting $80k worth of "perks" per year each. That cost includes cost of guards, building maintenance, etc. These guys aren't coming out of their terms with any kind of savings or RRSPs or things like that either. So while they get the free gym membership you and I have to pay $50 a month for, we're building savings and our future, which they will be severely crippled with a long term sentence.

As far as Olsen goes, no loss there. However, I am not a huge fan of Corrections Canada contacting the families directly to let them know he's at the end. What's the point? Make the families relive the details of their kids deaths all over again now, and then again next week when he finally dies? It just strikes me as a petty revenge move.
