Default Canada Post Strike

I got word at my work that the folks at Canada Post are going on strike, my workplace wants our paperwork out today by 2:30pm. I don't see any articles out on it yet so I can't obviously confirm via media. 95% in favour apparently.

EDIT - as one of the posters mentioned, I also believe it is 48 hours notice. I didn't get anything official for an announcement date, it is likely my workplace in a panic wanting us to get paperwork out but they seem to have caught wind of something from somebody over at Canada Post.

I think it is absolutely absurd that civic employees can strike...particularly a group that can cripple the nation in the short term.

I'm surprised they waited so long to do it to be honest. Supposedly they had the vote a few months ago according to someone in management from Canada Post.

And FWIW, this would only affect deliveries to actual mail boxes, not superboxes...those are contracted out and would be unaffected.

Except Canada post does a #### ton of delivering between the depots for mail and parcels to be sorted.

This will effect everyone. Maybe some more than others though.

Yeah I'm not gonna pretend to know who would all be affected...it was more just a conversation I had a few months ago with the guy. He explained in the warehouse that about half the staff would be on strike and such...which doesn't make any sense to me but c'est la vie. Gonna be ####ty either way.

Am I supposed to feel bad for them? I know someone who works for Canada Post. He works 4 hours a day 5 days a week and makes $50,000+ a year. You know what you signed up for when you got the job, if you don't like it find another one.

Yes, they have until Tuesday at midnight but we have been told to get our mail out today because anything tomorrow or on the weekend will get stuck in processing because of the Monday holiday.

I believe they have to serve notice if they want to strike, I believe it is something like 48 hours notice.

How am I going to receive all my items from eBay and Amazon now? Don't make me ship UPS with their $35 duty fee.

If I was the evil union master I would totally strike right before Christmas. All of your workers get to miss the busiest season and the coldest season and sit back and watch the Holiday Fireplace channel at home, while a pile of Christmas cards and presents rapidly fills the warehouse and Christmas is ruined for all.

That could work both ways though. It could potentially be a PR nightmare for the union. I mean, lets face it. People only care if things directly affect them. Not getting presents and cards to their destination is going to piss off a lot of people.
