Marek: Flames ‘fire sale’ not expected while team remains in playoff contention
I wonder how many teams have had to cast out bigger trade nets with the Calgary Flames still in playoff contention this deep into January? There was very much the belief that the Flames would have fallen apart by now and GM Craig Conroy would be setting up his deadline deals, but Calgary is in a Wildcard spot. That’s great for them, but teams hoping to get business done in Alberta are now having to look elsewhere.

Now with the Calgary Flames, youngsters Jakob Pelletier and Rory Kerins are picking up where they left off as linemates with the Calgary Wranglers.
The final 100 regular season games at the Saddledome begin on Thursday
Barring the NHL completely changing their scheduling, there are exactly 100 regular season games left: 18 this season, and 41 in 2025-26 and 2026-27. The Saddledome will move ahead of the last three buildings on the list and end its time as an NHL arena in seventh place all-time in regular season games hosted. For the 2027-28 season, the Flames will move a block north to Scotia Place.

The Flames are now in the back half of the season and, surprisingly, still in the hunt for the playoffs. And while the team on the ice in the NHL is performing above expectations, the prospects across various leagues are doing an outstanding job. Whether it is the Pacific Division-leading Calgary Wranglers in the AHL or the Flames’ prospects across the CHL’s three leagues, the future looks very bright for the Flames.

A Flames loss will bring us that much closer into the bottom 10.

What's Barrie's deal now? Is he just practicing and healthy scratching his way to retirement? Did the Flames do something wrong that they had to give him a contract?
If he is waiting to be traded, well who is going to want him if he hasn't played in 2 months? If he is waiting for someone to be traded, that likely won't happen if they are in the race.

I think he signed as a spare part, D has been healthy and competent, so a spare part he remains.
