WEEK 12: BC Lions at STAMPEDERS

WEEK 12: Lions at STAMPEDERS

Today is a Hall of Fame Game at McMahon Stadium. The league will recognized 2 former Stamps receiver Terry Vaughn and QB Danny McManus. The league will also recognized Don Matthews and others. The Stamps(7-3) are still fighting the Eskimos for 1st place in the West, while BC Lions(4-6) won 3 games in a row is in 3rd place fighting for playoff spot against the Riders.

OFFENSE:

Wow, what a difference a game makes when Dickerson and the coaching staff involves our Running Backs Joffrey Reynolds and Jon Cornish. Interestingly, Stamps rushing offense leads the league which is kind of misleading since most of the time, the RBs are the forgotten group in this offense.

OLine raised it's game last week against the Eskimos. Those OLine definitely loves to give the licking sometimes rather than takes the licking. They created a lot of holes for Cornish, Reynolds and Burris. I even saw one of the linemen just blocked one Eskimos during Cornish good run.

Stamps is #2 in passing offense in the CFL but they are playing against the team that is also #2 in passing defense. It should be interesting who will win this battle. The Lions also played some shutdown football of late and they haven't given up an offensive touchdown in 13 quarters but most of those quarters are against the sad sack Argonauts. The Stamps on the other hand is averaging 30 points in it's past 5 games (including the 7 points in Labour Day Game).

Ken-Yon Rambo had a great game last week against the Eskies with 7 catch for 121 yards. Henry Burris just needs 77 yards passing yards and he will move past Tracy Ham into 7th all-time passing yardage list in the CFL. Nik "Geronimo" Lewis has compiled the most yards after catch (YAC) than any other receiver this season. Let's not forget the play of the game last week. Henry Burris threw a Hail Mary pass with a few seconds left in the 1st half. The ball bounces off the Eskimos defenders and Lewis caught the ball. Lewis as we all know it tried successfully to get more yardage after the catch and scored a touchdown.

DEFENSE:

Our defense is decimated by injuries this season so far. Gone are Corey Mace(achilles-gone for the season), MLB Juwan Simpson missed a few games already but he will play today. Robert McCune who did a great job filling in for Simpson on MLB position is out for the game today and maybe 1 or 2 more games with knee injury. Charleston Hughes will not be available today as well because of shoulder injury. Brandon Isaac and Johnny Dixon but the Stamps are still as good as it ever be.

Former Eskimos 1st round pick in 2010 Defensive Lineman Brian Bulcke will be suiting up for the Stampeder for the first time this season. Bulcke was one of the last cut by San Francisco 49ers. With Bulcke in the lineup, Stamps had to release Adrian Davis, the last player on the Argos trade. J' Michael Deane will be back in the lineup as well. So that means we will have 4 rookies in our DLine with Bulcke, Deane, imports Torrey Davis and Kevin Dixon playing along the veteran Devon Claybrooks. They will have their work cut for them against the improved Lions' OLine.

Defense need not to give Travis Lulay lots of time in the pocket or run around. The more pressure you give Lulay, the more he makes mistakes. Our DBack will also have work cut out for them playing against Geroy Simon and Lions receivers.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

This game is a make or break for Kicker Rene Paredes. I am sure that is going to be on the back of his mind all day. If he does well, he will give Huf and the coaching staff a hard time to make a decision whether to give Maver his job back or just let Paredes keep kicking for them. Paredes actually did a good job replacing Maver except for a game or two. Rob Maver could have eligible to come back in this game but Huf decided to give Paredes one more game.

Game will be played at McMahon Stadium tonight and starts at 5pm.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

Will the Stampeders ever get to field all their starters this year on defence? The injury woes are getting ridiculous and if there ever was a game the offence was to come up big it will be today because it's going to be a bit much to expect the defence to shut down Bruce and Simon given that Lulay will likely have all day in the pocket to find open receivers. If Frank shows up for more than a quarter this will be an easy win for the Lions.

It will be an interesting game to see if BC has turned things around or if they were just able to beat up on an Argos team that would be challenged to beat a team of 45 Cper's.

This is the type of game the Stamps should win if they want to be the top team in the league this year and the type of game that they have struggled with at times over the past 3 years.

Win this game and the Stamps should be pretty secure in hosting a play-off game this year and they show the league that they are the class of the league. Lose this game (even with the injuries) and some seeds of doubt may start creeping in.

I think Burris and the offense shows up after a usual slow start and win the game 32-18.

And for the 2nd week in a row I'm cheering for the Stamps. I feel dirty. But since the Riders aren't finishing 1st, I might as well cheer for a Riders-Stamps West Final. Obviously that's a long way off but I think Edm and BC could both fall off. Especially since the Riders play each of them twice more.

Looks like that might have been a bit of a lucky call for us but ends up hurting us as Tate now has to come in for at minimum 3 plays (and hopefully that is all).

Is it really that much to ask the Stamps not to suck in the first half of games?

I hate those accidental pass interference and you get penalized for 34 yards for it. It should only be 10 yards.

So far a sleeper. Like the Retro Jerseys on the Stamps though. They should wear these helmets always.

Those 2nd and 2 yard runs out of the shotgun need to be purged from the playbook.

I don't understand the point in running that when you have a one yard gap and Reynolds who can still push most defenders for a yard. People may say he has lost a step but he still is as strong a RB as there is in the league and should be able to get most 2nd and 2 if called upon.

And there is the next dumbest play in the game.

Passing out of 2nd and inches and allowing a sack.

Surprise, surprise the Stamps come out with another stinker of a first half.

It appears these teams saw how bad the first game was and have come out to try and show that they can play an even worse, boring game.

Embarrassing performance by the Calgary Stampeders as a whole. Playing with no urgency no fire infront of a home crowd. If your gonna play like #### don't bother coming out.
