Default Ipod and Ipad

So . . .

I've got about 20,000 mp3's on my computer. Organization of them is poor, I'm sure tons of them are damaged or aren't actually the song they're labeled to be. Some are no doubt crappy quality.

The girlfriend wants an ipad or ipod for xmas. So I was thinking about getting her an ipod touch.

I use an Nano for going to the gym and running. I hate updating it, I hate organizing music and I the task of organizing my mp3 collection makes me sick to my stomach.

If she's going to use one of these devices it's probably time to figure out how this all works. Back in my teens I was an early adapter of techs. I was burning CD's before anyone I know, I owned the first mp3 player I ever saw at any gym, I showed my friends how to download and use MP3's, first using FTP sites, then napster, ad exchange, newsgroups, limewire, gnutella, etc. I'm now using torrents and frostwire but think it's time to grow up and maybe start paying.

That said - I don't know what to do. Anytime I have something to do around the house I blare my music out my xbox/tv/home theatre via my PC but half I end up skipping as it's some crappy song I have but can't be bothered to delete. I just discovered Zune today and might use that at $10 a month once the trial is over (if I figure out what it actually is).

Do I want to use Zune? Or if I'm looking at buying apple devices do I want to use something else. Do I start downloading music via itunes and putting it on my devices?

I feel so old all of a sudden.

And I still don't know if I should buy her an ipod touch.

Also there are some decent programs out there that will sort your music for you, and will find missing titles/album artwork. I've tried a few out for some old burned CD's that I ripped to my computer, and they worked pretty well.

Names of such programs.

TuneUp.

I use it, well worth the price. But be prepared to have it miss a few songs- if you have specialty tracks it won't be the best for you, but if you have mostly cd rips and album downloads, you'll be fine.

FWIW, I have 34000 (212GB) songs I am in the process of cleaning up.

i'm sure i'm in the minority but oh well, here we go....

i hate i-products.

my friends now are borrowing a phrase of mine when their i-products don't work correctly... i-crap!

i have an i-pod touch and rarely use it. i find i-tunes sooooo annoying and backwards to the way that i would do things.... i'm glad i've got a buddy who is very patient and doesn't mind my i-rants!
here's one of my latest... i want to put pictures on the i-pod - and i want them nicely organized in folders/subfolders like i have on my pc - you dump them on the i-pod and now all subfolders are gone.... really?? is it THAT HARD for apple to allow you to use sub folders with pictures... i just doesn't make any sense to me.

is it flash media that i-crap doesn't support?? i think so..... it's only one of the most popular forms of video out there and you can't watch it on your i-pod/pad

on the flip side, i got my wife the new i-pad for her birthday in october and she just loves it.... i guess it's different strokes for different folks!

I on the other hand love i-products. I have owned a first generation iPod, 3 iPod shuffles, bought an unlocked iPhone from the US almost immediately as soon as someone proved it worked on Rogers, currently have an iPhone 3GS and have an iPad.

I don't know what is "backwards" about iTunes. It works for what I need... I've not had a problem with it.

As for pictures and subfolders. that probably is a feature that iTunes should incorporate. But for only $2 (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/photo...369610590?mt=8) you can do exactly what you want plus much, much more.

Yes, Apple doesn't support flash on iDevices. And here is why:
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/
Makes perfect sense to me. Flash is dying and Adobe only have themselves to blame.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I'd suggest going into an Apple store and playing with an iPad/iPod touch. Some people just fall in love with the device using it in the store .... others don't like it. But you can get a feel for what the experience is like without having to pay for one.

iPod, iPhone, iPad, iTunes. Not Ipod or i-tunes.

From what I recall, I think you can do this. In iTunes (with your iPod sync'd to your PC), click on the 'photo' tab at the top. It will say something like Sync Photo's from ________ (which will probably be your photo library folder). Underneath it, you have the option to select all folders or selected folders. Choose the folders you want to put on your iPod and hit sync/apply and that's it. Your folders should be on your iPod.

Yeah that's exactly how it works. You just select all the folders you want to sync and each will appear as its own album.

Oh, I see. I believe there are some cheap apps that allow nested photo albums ($2 or $3). Here's one:

IIRC Android is the same way. You can't have subfolders by default, but there are Apps that allow it.
