Default CRTC sets rules on Exclusive Mobile Video

http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/20...tion-crtc.html

Quote:
"Canadians shouldn't be forced to buy a mobile device from a specific company or subscribe to its internet service simply to access their favourite television programs,"
So looks like Bell may no longer be able to have TSN mobile for Bell customers.

Also towards the end of the article it has an interesting quote.
Quote:
The CRTC also asked Bell Canada, Quebecor Media, Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications to give Canadians more flexibility to pick the channels they want in their cable and satellite packages. The companies must report by April 1, 2012, what they have done to "respond to consumer demands."

April 2012 news: A report filed to the CRTC from Bell Canada, Quebeco Media, Rogers Communication and Shaw Communications this month consisted of one word: "Nothing."

It would be nice to have HD only offerings, but I don't see that happening in the short-term (1-2 year) timeframe.

Patently ridiculous that you must order standard def channels just to be able to get HD ones.

Shaw doesn't make me order dial-up just so I can get access to broadband.

I would buy two channels Sportsnet and TSN and get CBC over the air.

So when does this take effect? TSN is still promoting TSN mobile only for Bell customers.

I don't get it either why Bell can be the only cell provider to offer TSN.

Do they even have their own towers? I thought they roamed on Telus towers in Alberta and BC. On SaskTel in Sask, and on Rogers in Manitoba.

Because Bell owns TSN.
