Default Where do you grocery shop?

I'm new to Calgary and I noticed that food is overpriced in Calgary. I was just wondering where is the best place to get groceries. I am a body building and I eat for 2 people. I have checked out Costco and so far thats the best place but I hate waiting in line for 30 mins.

Woah, you're a whole building?!

Costco is good for bulk (obviously) and meat. I've heard rumors that Okotoks is the best. I personally shop at Superstore because it's cheap and close to my place, however I don't usually buy beef there. Except short ribs. Safeway can be expensive, but I think people tend to believe they have good produce. I can't say either way.

If you like weird food and produce, I give Superstore another point.

My wife and I shop at Superstore as it's cheaper than Safeway.

Unfortunately Superstore produce is usually terrible.

If you think Calgary grocery stores are expensive, don't even set foot in a CO-OP.

Walmart -- for the inexpensive prices.

Safeway -- Making sure to buy only the stuff that is on special for the members. First Tuesday of the month is 10% off.

SuperStore -- I would go here more often if the store wasn't so dirty. So I actually never go there. lol

Couldn't believe how much cheaper avocadoes were in Vancouver compared to Calgary. And not just Vancouver - Granville Island.

Safeway. Best produce of any grocery store. Plus I hate bagging my own groceries!

Walmart is better than you'd expect for produce.

We generally get produce at the farmer's market, but that can get expensive as well (thank god for the vendor's discount).

Costco for meats, dairy, and bakery, hands down. To avoid the lines try shopping late afternoon (~3-4pm), and avoid Saturdays completely! I have not been myself, but my parents have said that the Okotoks Costco is way less busy, including Saturdays.

I get the rest of my groceries at Sobeys as I only like to buy 1 or 2 days worth of produce at a time and it's really close to my house. The prices at Sobey's are pretty fair.

Edit: Oh ya, when you go to Costco, buy these! Freakin' yum!

Safeway, club card & airmiles make it worthwhile.
I can't stand the crowds you get at Superstore

We live close to a Superstore, Safeway, and Sobeys, so we go to each randomly depending on when we're shopping and what we need. I tend to lean towards Safeway for the Air Miles, but Superstore when I am in a snacking mode - so many awesome flavours of potato chips there!

I go to Safeway because it's close to my house. Apparently I go a lot, because the manager stopped my wife the other day to offer us "elite" status. We have the store manager's cell phone number, we get 10% off roses, and a bunch of other weird little things I'll never take advantage of lol.

Safeway. Good deals and no where near as overpriced as people always say. Their prices have come down a lot.

Air Miles and I really like the Eating Right brand. Excellent if you are watching what you eat both calorie and fat wise.

I'm pretty sure the manager is trying to have sex with your wife. Maybe he already did for all I know. Think about it. Cell phone number, roses, "other weird little things".

Either that, or he's hinting that he wants them to buy him roses.

They do this comparison every month or two. It's usually pretty consistent.

Oh yeah. Like maybe the manager is trying to get in on a manage trois with Sliver and Mrs Sliver.

When I go down the list and look at the things I normally buy, Co-op is pretty much the same as all the others (cheaper on some things, more on others), but the total is quite a bit higher at Co-op. Obviously, Co-op's prices are higher on the things that I don't normally buy, which might explain why I don't notice any difference between Co-op and Safeway, which is where I split my shopping.

Safeway pisses me off because they always seem to be out of the things that I buy when I go there, and I prefer Dairyland milk to Lucerne. Also, I stopped at Safeway on my way home the other night and the checkouts were all so backed up, that I just went to Co-op to get what I needed.

I go to Superstore once every few months just to remind myself why I don't go there more often.

I couldn't even tell you where a Sobey's store is in this city.

Tuesday was 10% off day (first Tuesday of the month).
