Default Sens ship Staal to Steeltown

Ottawa-GM Walsh has sent forward Jordan Staal to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday afternoon. In exchange, the Sens receive forwards Martin Hanzal, David Clarkson and prospect Phillip Danault.

Again this trade is fairly even imo. I needed to make a bunch of 2 for 1 type deals and this fits perfectly. I like Hanzal, he logs big minutes in the NHL and Clarkson is serviceable. Danault adds another decent prospect.

Thanks to Jeff for the talks. Flame Away.

This is a win for PITTS in my opinion. With Crosby questionable to start the season, I see Jordan getting an opportunity to perform on the top line with Malkin.

Like it for both teams. Ottawa needs to make quality for quantity deals to fill out their roster. I think Hanzal will have a good year in Phoenix

I don't think Staal gets any better than what we already see in him.

Like this for Pitt also, although I do like Hanzal and Clarkson could have a productive year this year.

Although I like it for Pitt, I like seeing the Staals on a team that isn't Ottawa more, so cheers to the GMs in this deal.

I also wonder if Jordan has that much more to his game. He'll certainly get the chance early this season by the looks of it.

Sim wise I was surprised at jordans underwhelming ratings. Especially is fo.

Pretty fair deal I think. Good work putting it together!

I agree with you here. Hes obviously a good player and all, but he might be plateaued.

Agreed. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Staal is a bit of a wildcard.

Good deal for both GMs.

Well from our perspective it is a deal where I decided to ship out some of the assets we had. I found myself hanging onto depth and good prospects a bit too much last season. This year I decided to make deals to get the team looking the way I want it.

I am a big Hanzal fan and don't see a huge difference between him and Staal. However Staal has proven to be an elite 3rd liner and PKer and that is what we need on this team. Hopefully we see this trade help our pk.

I got mixed feedback on this deal and that usually means it can help both teams so hopefully that is the case here. Thanks to Mike for the smooth trade talks.
