Default Dumb question... UFO-like lights in the sky

Ok, so the past few times I've been in the mountains, I see lights just dancing patterns across the sky. I believe modern aerial technology isn't advanced enough to do things like go in one direction, then pull a immediate 90 or 180 degrees turn. Its over a fairly large distance. I've seen it in multiple states, and I don't think there are that many UFO's. I'd guess a weather balloon but they don't cover that much area? It will dance across the sky all night and I've seen it a ton over the past year.

What am I looked at here?

If you are in the mountains, you're probably seeing cars driving on roads along the side of mountains in the distance. I've seen similar things at night in southern BC. If you around Osoyoos at night, you can look at the sides of some of the mountains that have roads on them and the switch-backs almost make it look like the lights are making sharp turns.
