Plex IOS app
Trying to figure out how to get my Plex files on my PC to the app. Do I need a subscription in order to do this?
Here is a pic of the app

No you don't need a subscription. Do you have the Plex Server installed on your computer?

In order to sync, to view without streaming, you need a subscription.**
In order to view while connected to the internet, and stream the content, you do not need a subscription.
In either case, you either need Plex media server installed on your PC, with a Library pointing to the folder you would like to share, or another person's Plex library that is shared with you (which is a library that they have on their PC, running Plex Media Server.
**Disclaimer: I have had my subscription for over a year, it is possible that the sync feature is now available for free.

You need to log in, using your Plex account, into the iOS app.
Alternately, it should find the server if it is on the same network, without logging in. If it isnt, then you should check to make sure the server is running by testing it on a web browser on the same PC that is running Plex Media Server.

Great guys I got to work. However it seems to crash when I try to stream it through chromecast. Is that usually a problem with the IOS App?

Chromecast is notoriously terrible with plex. I was under the impression the newest release fixed the crashing issue however.

Sorry if this is OT, but what's your Plex client of choice Rathji? I've tried it on 4 or 5 devices and still miss the Mac client...

I'll jump in :-). Mine for "everyday" watching in the living room is the Roku 3, solid and dependable albeit with a dull interface.
For my home theatre it's hard to beat the Mac Mini, no transcoding, HD audio support.

I use it on my Xbox one, Android phone, iPad and Roku 1 and 3, and Web interface in Chrome. I used to have Windows Surface RT that I would sync for my commute, that I liked as well.
I prefer the iPad and Web interfaces. Roku channels work, but are unspectacular at best. I recall the Windows RT client was pretty decent as well.
I really am not picky, and I the end I use the Roku because my kids can work the remote and it saves me changing inputs etc

I found Plex on the chromecast to be maddening. several times the app crashed, but since it was just removing the server, the video would keep playing without a way for me to stop it.
Plex on the PS4 is really nice (you need a European account). I liked it enough that I totally ditched my Apple TVs and replaced them with Roku 3s. While I don't regret the decision, the interface is perhaps the worst I've seen and every time I boot it up I have to think for a moment to figure out how to do what I want to do.

Does anyone have an idea how one might do the following?
I am out at work or otherwise, I think of a movie or show I would like to watch, I pull out my smartphone and somehow use it to make my home computer download what I am wanting to watch so that it is there when I get home.

If you install the SSPlex channel then install Curl on your Plex server you will be able to use SSPlex's "watch later" option which downloads it to your server.

You can use a remote desktop application and download that way. Teamviewer works quite well

If you're talking torrents, I use Transmission ( https://www.transmissionbt.com/) on my media server. It comes packaged with a mobile-compatible web server that I can just paste torrent URLs to.
It's also got support for filename-based file placement, meaning if it sees "DTS" in the filename it knows it's a movie, and puts it in my Plex movie library folder.
