New Sens GM Wastes Little Time

Ottawa-GM Walsh returns to the cphl and make a huge deal to get right back into the swing of things. The Sens have traded superstar forward Nik Backstrom and stud blueliner Marc Staal to Dallas. In return, the Sens receive David Krejci, James Van Reimsdyk and Ryan Whitney. The Sens threw in some cash to help balance it out.

I think its a fairly even deal. Krejci and Van Reimsdyk are finally starting to become big time players in the NHL and getting both of them is likely better than just having Backstrom. Whitney and Staal have similar ratings but I needed a puck mover on the blue line.

Good deal! Van Reimsdyk is turning into a player that's a lot of fun to watch. I think he'll be a star in Philly.

I really like JVR and I think that he will really breakout this season. Thats not to say this is a bad deal for Dallas at all!

This was a deal that came together pretty quickly and in the end was only 1 player different from the original proposal. We got it done quickly over PM as well(it is possible!).

I'm pretty excited to add a player like Backstrom who I think is one of the top playmakers in the league and an elite player already at only 24. Hopefully his high passing rating will mesh well with the high scoring rating of Jeff Carter. With Staal we add one of the top young shutdown defenders in the game. I expect his 2-way game to continue to improve this season. I feel good moving forward with Yandle and Staal heading up my defense.

However, you need to give to get and I paid a high price in this deal. I am a big fan of both Krejci and JVR. I expect JVR to be a 60 pts player this season and Krejci might sniff the mid 70's. That said, neither are at the elite level Backstrom is. Sim wise, my team gets better while not getting any older.

Should be a good win-win deal.

Seems to me that's about as even a deal as you can find with so many big names involved. Priority for Ottawa was adding an extra player to fill out the roster, but they bring back 3 core pieces which is great. Dallas in turn gets the BP in the deal.
