Week 11: Battle of alberta - part 3
WEEK 11: STAMPEDERS at Eskimos
Third game between the two Alberta rivals this season. Stamps lost the first game 24-19 on Week 4 and was embarrassed on Labour Day Not-so-Classic game. It's revenge time for the Stampeders and hopefully they do a lot of damage against the Eskies tonight. Last game was a totally embarrassment for our beloved Stamps. Nothing positive to say except for that one perfect 6/6 for 99 yards drive for a touchdown. Nothing to worry though because i am sure they will bounce back. Just for a side note, the last time the Stampeders lost to Eskimos on Labour Day game was when they won the Grey Cup.
OFFENSE:
Burris went perfect on one drive in the first half. It seems that's all the Stamps need to kill the Eskimos' spirits but instead of putting the dagger and follow that perfect drive, Stamps offense went south.
The whole offensive line just had a hard time stopping the Eskimos' pressure and gave up 3 sacks. This is the game the Stamps supposed to take at least 3 QB sacks and not give up 3 sacks. Left Tackle Tony Washington struggled against Greg Peach especially and he was called at least 3 illegal procedure penalties. Way too much for the offense let along against one guy. Hence, Edward Harrison will replace him as a starter. It's too bad though because I am starting to like Washington.
I like Dave Dickerson as a player and most of the time I like him as a coach but ever since he became the official Offensive Coordinator starting this season, he pretty much abandoned the running game. Some people thinks Reynolds is losing a step but i don't think that is the case. Reynolds used to touched the ball for over 10 carries and last year he split duties with Cornish which works perfectly last season. That is the reason his rushing yards went down tremendously. The last few games, he was hardly used. This is the same Rushing champion a few seasons ago and the last 2 games he probably rushed less than 10 carries. Cornish on the other hand was not a factor either. I think mixing up the game and adding some running games will help stabilize the OLine. Sometimes the hogs would like to give a licking too.
Burris, the OLine, receivers and RBs will bounce back tonight. We will see a lot of different team tonight.
DEFENSE:
No pressure on quarterback all day. Ricky Ray will punish you if you give him lots of time in the pocket. Fortunately for the Stamps defense, Ricky Ray struggled as well last game otherwise we will see a bigger margin. Our defense stayed way too much on the field that is why intead of adjusting last game, they were so tired by the 3rd quarter and they started missing tackles. I am sure a lot of Stamps defensive players were so embarrassed with the way they played. Way too many soft and sloppy tackles, they just can't stop anyone. I am sure Chris Jones' boys will play a lot better tonight. We might even see Ray flat on his back a lot tonight.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Larry Taylor is a big plus for the team. Unfortunately whenever he's got a big gain, there was an infractions or some sort. Not a lot of blocks in front of him. I just can't wait to see this guy gets some opening on a kickoff or punt return. He is not shy or scared of going to find a hole. Our defensive special teams play much better though. So far we haven't seen a lot of big gains against our special team stoppers.
PENALTIES:
We need to cut down the unnecessary penalties. Discipline is the key. Everytime we do something good, we see flags. Offense, Defense and Special Teams gets a lot of penalties. Deserving? Yes and No. Most are deserving but there are few that was questionable. It doesn't matter, just don't let the referees decide the outcome of the game.
STAMPS WILL WIN TONIGHT!!!
Game will be played at Commonwealth Stadium tonight.
GO STAMPS GO!!!

I believe Fred Stamps returns for the Esks tonight which puts a lot more pressure on the Stamps secondary.

Yep Kavis Reed keep saying he is hoping Fred Stamps gets hit early so he can concentrate. Be careful what you wish for Coach Reed because if Morley hit him, he might not get up. That guy can hit. I can't remember which game was it when Demetrius Morley hit the receiver, he hit him so hard he fumbled the ball and Keon Raymond picked up the ball for a touchdown. I think it was against Montreal or maybe BC Lions or something.

Bad throw behind the receiver almost and should've been a turnover.

"Alexander hasn't had a single interception in 44 games. And with hands like that, we know why".

Its always something with this offense. A bad pass, dropped ball, stupid penalty, they just can't put it all together.

Holy cow Ricky Ray is throwing some nice long balls today. Stampeder defense should watch out all night. So far I like the pressure and hopefully they keep putting Ricky Ray back on the turf all night.
