Default First Air crash Nunavut

http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...737-crash.html

For some strange reason, without knowing anyone involved this seems to hit close to home.

You hear of tragic accidents involving small aircraft such as Na###os, King Airs etc from time to time, as well you hear of airliners going down in far off places such as India, Russia and Pakistan. Not to say that those incidents are not tragic in themselves, but when you hear of a Canadian 737 going down in Canadian airspace, that really hits you.

I pride myself on being a pilot in this sometimes crazy industry, and a small industry it really is.

In an industry that really encompasses knowing someone who knows someone, who knows someone, this really sucks..

Prayers to those involved....

ahh shoot.....don't know how this happened ....can someone move this to the off topic forum....thanks

Why the hell would they charter a 737 for 15 people. That makes little sense to me.

737's are mostly used in Nunavut to carry freight. I think this First Air plane had a capacity of about 50 people with over half the plane used just for cargo. I have flown on this plane before.

It is terrible that people lost their lives but at the same time that there were so few people on the plane and that there were also survivors.

Didn't see this thread til now, but what an awful tragedy this was. It's been a somber couple of weeks in Yellowknife, with so many people involved in the aviation industry here most people had some sort of connection to members of the flight crew. My brother flies for Canadian North, usually up on Baffin Island, so this really hits home for me. RIP
