A couple days ago my dog threw up about 10 times (all on the carpet) because she had some rope stuck in her stomach. It finally came out but good god I couldn't deal with anything more than that at this stage in my life.

I would have thought that more people would stop after having just one child because sometimes this is really hard.

No one really tells you how hard it is sometimes, or maybe its just me...

Anyway had to rant somewhere...
We only have one, but the wisdom from others that have more than one is that they look after themselves when they are older.

Plus if you are the Staal or Sutter family, you can rule the hockey world.

Some people are just hard-core religious and don't believe in birth control.

I used to play hockey with a guy. Late twenties, having his eighth kid. That's just crazy, but hey...it's his choice. At least he'll have plenty of kids to take care of him when he's 80 years old.

I kind of agree, though I can see the point of them entertaining each other when they're older, but really how long does that last? Until they're 6 or 7?

I like one.

I'm not sure what being a father is like so I'm not going to try and pretend to know what your going through here. But I think I'm right when I guess that being a parent is both admirable and a character building experience. It's something that lasts a lifetime and I'm going to take a guess and say your kid is probably the most important thing/person in your life to you. Some people aren't able to have kids. I would say they probably wish to even have just an hour of what that feeling might be like to wake up and know you have a gigantic responsibility of raising a capable and genuine human being.

Plus, the more you have, the less work you have to do. That's what my dad always used to say...

"Go do the dishes."
"No I don't want to."
"Well that's why I brought you into the world in the first place, so I don't care whether you want to or not".

Just kidding. Well I think he was at least.

Not only do I have three kids, I am the our household's designated parent. I have cleaned up after all manner of bodily functions, and I used to be the most squeamish person in the world.

Two of my boys are in school now - the hard work is all but done - and it'll be back in the job force soon and the wife'll take over on the domestic front.

Well, I have 3 kids and would probably have more if we started earlier. The positives FAR outwait the negatives. Yeah, there are tough times. We went through sickness in our house for over four months at one time. However, the joy you get from watching them play together, opening presents together, playing soccer, baseball, hide-and-seek with them, is priceless.

Yes, it is difficult at times but, personally, I wouldn't change it for the world.

People have more than one for insurance, in case the first one doesn't work out.

As an only child, let me assure you that only children are mentally f'ed up. Have zero or two.

The shrieking, fidgety, hyper, 3 year old in front of me who bashed thundersticks in my face at SuperSkills was a pretty good commercial for contraceptives today....

Whenever I think of having a first, I borrow one from a relative. The yearning quickly dissipates.

Almost every person I've met that is an only child is really weird... having a brother or sister teaches you social skills you might not learn until much later on in life.

also.. the every kid needs one of two things.. Someone to corrupt and blame stuff on OR someone to buy them alcohol

My daughter is four now. We're thinking of having one more, but didn't even consider the notion of #2 until she was older than three.
It is not easy, though it might get easier with a big sister. That could be the answer, but if we can't have a second we're fine with that too.

Being someone with another sibling, I think it'd extremely important that you have two kids. No more unless you REALLY want more but two is the magic number.

They're going to have each other's back for life

Is it just me, or is this country going to be SCREWED because people aren't have ENOUGH kids?? Not saying I want or plan to have 15 or anything, or even 1 for that matter, but I think this country is going to run into a lot of problems due to a lack of child births.

There are already more than enough people on the planet. I think everyone should be keeping it to one or two kids. Yes, the population will fall with the aging of the boomers, but there are hoards of good people lining up to come into the country. I wouldn't worry too much about us not being able to find people wanting to work here to support the economy.

Quebec on the other hand *DOES* have a huge problem as the immigrants rarely want to live there. There are some in the Montreal area, but there are small coastal communities where the average age is 50.

Oh man I feel your pain Fotze. We are considering number two and sometimes we just look at each other and go "why would we go through this again?" But then I think of my brother and all the shenanigans we got up to and what he means to me now, and I realize that we just have to have another one.
