Default Moving Advice -- Rent Truck or Pay Movers?

Need to move two couches (one full-size, one loveseat) from a house in Marda Loop (easy access) to a 2nd floor condo downtown (elevator, relatively easy access). Note: Everything else I own will be transported in my SUV -- the couches are too big for it.

Option 1: Rent a u-haul cargo van -- estimated cost $50-$100

Option 2: Pay moving company to transport/carry two couches a few km's.

Is there a company that does small moves like this at a reasonable price? At most it will take 30-45 minutes.

Are there companies other than U-Haul in the SW/DT area that offer affordable cargo van rentals for a few hours?

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm new to Calgary.

Budget also does van rentals. They may be more convenient and cheaper than U-haul. (plus the van should be in better condition)

I'm sure there's delivery services that could transport the items for $50-75 bucks, but would prefer something reputable (re: not rapey/stabby/stealy).

You don't have any friends with trucks who could use a case of beer?

Completely new to the city, plus it's ideally taking place Thursday (sept 1) during working hours.

Enterprise does cargo van rentals. Rented one last weekend and paid about $70 (plus gas) as I declined all the extra coverage. Unlimited KM's (although that is obviously not an issue in your situation).

Although in your situation, I might be inclined to strap the couch to the roof of the SUV and drive like a granny for the 2-3 km

Yeah, was going to follow that up with a video of the "Bad Idea Jeans" sketch from SNL but I was thwarted by Hulu. Damn you Hulu and your discrimination against Canada!

If it's 2 couches- go buy some lumber from Home Depot and rent their truck. ~$20 for 90 minutes.

Definately rent a cargo van and DIY. I just rented a U-haul van a month ago. I think it was $20 for 4 hours + so many cents per km. With your mileage it should be about $40-ish. Most moving companies have minimum charges substantially more than this.
