A baby was taken to hospital with stab wounds early Saturday morning, police said.
The child is still alive, but in critical condition at Alberta Children's Hospital, according to acting inspector Nancy Farmer.
"We have one person in custody and a couple of other people we're looking for," she said.
The Calgary Police's child abuse unit was called to the scene in the southeast community of Cranston after receiving a 4 a.m. 9-11 call.

A little more info from the CPS press release...
http://newsroom.calgary.ca/pr/calgar...ld-213506.aspx
Quote:
The Calgary Police Service Child Abuse Unit is currently investing an assault on a child following a domestic incident.
At approximately 4:15 a.m., today, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, officers responded to a 911 call in the 1000 block of Cranston Drive S.E.
When officers arrived they made entry into the home and arrested an agitated man who had slashed a six-month-old child several times. The child was quickly transported by EMS to a local hospital in critical condition. The child’s condition has since been upgraded to stable.
The man was arrested by officers and remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

I would hope that the suspect "fell" a few times on the way out to the police car.

I'd like to see All "offenders", aka sick ####s! have their offense branded on their orange jump suits. "Infant Stabber" "Child Molester" "Rapist" "Be-header"
They'd likely last about as long as Dalmer did in Prison.
Sometimes I think Incarcerated criminals do a better job of dealing with crime and punishment than our elected sob's and appointed judges.

What a stupid son of a bitch. I hope they release his name and picture and the inmates get a hold of who he is. This guy deserves to be tortured and kept alive and tortured some more until the day this scumbag dies of natural causes.

No way this guy survives in jail. Which IMO is a good thing.
People who do anything to children, be it rape/molestation/kill/stab deserve the death penalty. That is ****ed up.

I think this guy might prefer the death penalty to being known as a child stabber. I'd prefer he got beaten to death instead of a needle that puts him to sleep.

Not sure about the circumstances but I don't think there is any way around this dispicable act.
Based on our justice system though he/she will get a slap in the wrist and be back at work on Monday.

Reason: Added he/she as not sure who the suspect is.

So was the child 'stabbed' as it says in the Herald article, or 'slashed' like it says in the Police press release?

If there's a "good" side to the story, the update says it was "slashing" rather than a stabbing. Hopefully that means it's only surface wounds and not damage to any internal organs.
I would think it should mean the child has a much better chance of survival and should be young enough to not have a memory of it in the future. Hopefully the scarring is minimal and doesn't have a long-term impact on the baby.

The child is in critical condition, which probably means he tried to cut its throat.

I can't imagine what would be going through a person's mind to do something like this, so, it's hard to know what his intentions were. For the baby's sake, hopefully he was so out of his mind that the wounds were ultimately superficial.

Can't imagine being a Police Officer and respond to a call like this one. No wonder some of them are such hardened arseholes and have no time for my drunken hilariousness.

This guy is not worthy of our tax dollars to keep him in jail.
Bring back the death penalty....
