So I just found out I get to go to New Orleans for four days in the middle of September. I'm looking for suggestions to fill out my time at night, as I'll be stuck in a conference for most of the days.
I'm a big Blues fan, so I'll definitely have to check something out along those lines.
Not during September, but if anyone can go during the Jazz festival, definitely do so. It was one of the best music experiences I've had....and it was raining the entire time.
I'd also recommend going out on a swamp tour. Although try to find a smaller outfit that makes it a little more personal.
That looks epic. And I'm flying into NO the morning of the 17th!!
I'd change it to the 16th, unless you live there you will never get a chance to see that kind of line up, I have been scheming to get to the stomp for about 5 years now.
Po-Boy Sandwiches available in crawfish, shrimp, crab, catfish!
If you like blues visit the 'Funky Pirate' on Bourbon on a night in which "Big Al' is playing (Every night except Sundays it seems).
I never made it there due to excessive partying on Bourbon both times I went there , but apparently there's an excellent WWII museum downtown.
Check out Royal Street and Jackson Square in the French Quarter during the day/early evening if possible there were a lot if interesting street buskars (Who are actually talented as opposed to bums who know how to play basic notes on an instrument) and a whole bunch of artists selling their wares.
Also +1 on going to a Saints game. I've been to a few NFL games in my day but the Louisiana experience of the Sunday night Halloween game there last fall was EPIC.

So lucky, that was the loudest I saw the Dome all year. I've been to Nola once, unfortunately it was in August and the Saints were in Indy for exhibition. One day..
Only having nights free unfortunately takes out the fan boat tour through gator infested swamps, which are awesome. But luckily for you, New Orleans has an awesome nightlife (I know, surprising right?). I second going to Patty O'Brien's on Bourbon St for a hurricane. Knocked me on my ass. Lots of good jazz/blues clubs around there too, and a couple peeler joints. The best part is you can booze on the street. Have a good time.

That one with the mannequin chick on the swing coming out the front (forget the name. May have been Larry Flint's one) was epic, or at least I had an awesome time there. I think the entire town knew I had an awesome time there.
