Default Any recycling options for styrofoam in Calgary

Hey,

Did a little looking online, and I can't seem to find any drop off points or options for recycling styrofoam. I've got a bunch of it at my house with the recycling triangles on it from various electronics packaging, but I know that even with the recycling triangles on it, your not supposed to put it in the blue bins.

Are their drop off points for this stuff? Would like to dispose of it properly as I know it's not great for the environment.

I listened to one of the city employees talk about this kind of thing on the Eyeopener, and it sounded like items that have the recycle symbol on them, but not accepted by the city will get sorted out and sent to another recycling facility. They may have been talking about metals or something (like why can you throw an empty tuna can in, but not a metal fork or whatever).

I think you can rest assured it won't get thrown in the landfill, but it will just cost extra money to transfer it to a recycling center that can deal with it.

Edit: batteries or CFLs can go to Home Depot or Ikea. No use endangering any poor sorters at the recycling center.

What about my bio-hazard body fluids? You know, the kind I give out regularly when I am having some beers... Like now.

This, also styrofoam is difficult to recycle. Cochrane bought a special machine that condenses it, but there is little to no market for the end product, which is why most places don't recycle it.

if it has the triangular symbol on it i have been putting it in my blue bin - it would appear that i did not read the blue bin owners manual.

as an aside, i think the blue and black bins are awesome, takes two to three weeks to fill mine up - i love having a place to store garbage that is not in my garage
