Default WEEK 3: STAMPS at Winnipeg

It wasn't an spectacular last week against BC Lions but a win is a win and it special because it was against the Division Rival.

OFFENSE:

Stamps OLine is improving and with Dmitri Tsoumpas coming back for the game, we can finally have some veteran players on that position other than the 2nd year Tim O'Neill. It is actually good timing for Tsoumpas to come back because Winnipeg have the most potent DLinemen in the CFL right with 2 former Stamps properties Odell Willis and Doug Brown. They are tied for the most sack in the league after 2 weeks.

Henry Burris definitely took the great news of Tsoumpas coming back in stride. Hopefully the OLine will give him lots of time in the pocket in this game. Burris had an interesting game against BC. He was good at times but struggled as well. Burris almost cost us the game by handing the ball to Joffrey Reynold's chest for a fumble. But the season is only in it's third week so we can really blame him for his inconsistencies at this time.

Stamps definitely need to utilize this 2-headed monster. Winnipeg will be all out going after Henry Burris all night so it means one of these guys will have some openings.

Nice game last week by Landan Talley. So usually if a player that well, he should be a shoo-in for the next game. Unfortunately with all the import talent Stamps have in the receiving department Talley will unfortunately have to sit out for the game. Ken-Yon Rambo will be back in the lineup, while Bryant and Nik Lewis are playing well. The Stamps cannot sit out their backup receiver Larry Taylor because he is a threat in return game.

DEFENSE:

LB Malik Jackson will be back in the lineup against Winnipeg. That means we might be able to see Robert McCune back on the DLine or he might help out the LB position as well. Non-import McCarthy will be out due to hamstring injury.

It's hard to figure out what mark you can give the DB position against BC Lions. I thought they did okay but at the same time BC receivers dropped the ball so many times. Not that I am complaining though. Demetrious Morley will be back in the lineup after sitting out 2 games due to injury. Morley played well against BC Lions in the pre-season game with 2 INT and almost have another one before he got injured in the game. Can we see the repeat of his performance? From what I heard Hufnagel thinks highly of this guy.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Our special team was special last game. Returner had a TD return and the kicker Paredes did so well stopping Tim Brown from scoring a TD on the return. He also kicked a long 50 yards Field Goal and he looks so relaxed. If he keeps it up, Maver might be starting to sweat because he'll end up losing his job.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

Game in Winnipeg's Canad Inn stadium at 6pm Friday, July 14th. It will be televised on TSN

Johnny Dixon will start on the corner because Greg Fassitt is back in Calgary with a leg injury. That could be a big blow to the Stamps. The Lions went right after the Stamps on that side when Fassitt injured himself last week.

Rambo should make a difference as well, will probably help Bryant get more chances to make bigger plays. That is if Burris can execute the plan and make the simple passes, he was horrid last week.

I believe the Bombers had something like 7 sacks on Lemon last week. The online has to hold up tomorrow night, Tsoumpas is expected to play from what I've read.

The Bombers have played in some ugly games, we will have to rely on special teams and a good ground game to get us a win. The line needs to be play a top game, the tackles so far have also been really bad. Tsoumpas should be a huge boost to the line as he is the best guard in the game, but the tackles really need to get a lot better. I really didn't think our offensive line would be a such a mess going into the season, the depth and riches we had this is unexpected.

What's up with the Stamps' injuries this season. I don't think I ever seen this much injuries this early in the season. So Rambo, Tsoumpas, Jackson and Morley coming back then you LB McCarthy and now Fassit as well.

BC completely abandoned the run last week and this week should be the exact opposite as the Bombers like to run the ball so this should be more of a challenge defensively from last week where the Lions seemed content to run deep passing plays most of the night.

Is it me or has the running game looked completely off (not like the passing game hasn't has been on though) in the first two games? Reynolds and Cornish really haven't been featured as much and when they have the holes haven't been there. Hopefully the Stamps can get that going or the Bombers linebackers will pin their ears back in chase of Burris all night. Hank will have to show up tonight for the Stamps to have any hopes of winning this game as if Frank shows up like last week the Bombers pass rush will likely force a lot of bad passes.

When you only have 2 pre-season games the first 2 games of the season are pretty much an extension of the pre-season and I can give them the benefit of the doubt for their mistakes. I would be more critical if they keep making rookie mistakes starting tonight.

Why is 4 games enough? Why not 3? 5? 10?

I've never understood the feeling that teams should have a deadline to be ready.

Mtl is clearly clicking early on (as usual). Wpg's D has been great as has Edm's offence. Sask on the other hand has had terrible defence.

New schemes, players, coaches etc will all be factors and so will injury.

I think what you should look for isn't some magic switch to be turned off or on but a general progression of the players getting more and more comfortable and as a result getting better and better as a team.

It would be nice if Henry could get on track in this series.

Burris had a first down and throws it 100 feet over Forzanis head, guys has been just plain awful.

FFS Burris, stop trying to be a damn hero and just make a simple play and let our receivers do the work like they usually do.
