Default Accounting software for Mac, or online?

We're using an old version of Quickbooks Pro (2007), and running it in a virtual machine is getting annoying, but I'm leery of going into the Mac version, where they say it's still quite behind the Windows version in terms of features and interface.

Are there any online business accounting sites that people use that are comparable to Quickbooks Pro? That could import data from QBP? And that doesn't cost $30 a month?

Or Mac users is there a good accounting program that's cheaper ($200 for Quickbooks Mac)? We don't need payroll type stuff.

My understanding is that Quickbooks Mac is completely deficient for any small business.

That said, I also researched hosted Quickbooks, and until Intuit brings their own offering out of beta and into the Canadian market (US only last time I checked - this may have changed), I don't think any of the small time SaaS (software as a service) providers offering Quickbooks are good enough for me to recommend.

Quickbooks in the cloud is a great idea - but finding providers that are PCI compliant, have proper SLA's, data backup and retention policies, data import/export policies and standards, network and facility redundancy, etc, is a lot tougher.

You'd almost be better off running Quickbooks on say MS Small Business Server and delivering it via remote desktop in-house and via VPN. Backups still need to be attended to, but thats a lot easier when the physical box is on your own premises.

We run macs here and unfortunately have to dual-boot our accounting machine with Windows in order to run any decent accounting software.

I'd suggest looking into Simply Accounting. It is a great Canadian accounting program, that is used by many accounting offices across the nation. Our copy was under $200 and can be purchased at any office store like Staples.

Ok thanks for the feedback, I guess we'll just stick to running it with parallels for now.
