Default The war on dust...

I hate dust! But my office gets warm with my computer running all the time, and keeping the window open keeps it cooler but also invites a ton of dust to come in and coat everything.

Has anyone seen anything like this in Calgary?

http://www.natlallergy.com/prod/1155...cd2=1181800428

Or maybe a window fan with a filter?

http://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Window-.../dp/B000OEHNR0

(Again never seen this in Calgary, anyone see any?)

Or maybe even this stuff:

http://www.pollentec.com/

Screen material that supposedly blocks pollen (which should block most dust too right?)

Or any other ideas short of installing AC to keep the office cool and fresh without having a film of dust on my keyboard by the end of the day?

Forget dust, dog hair is the true enemy. I'm literally replacing the carpet in my house with tile and hardwood just to make dog hair management easier.

Wouldn't installing a quality furnace and routinely changing the filter do the most good for dust?

I don't have dogs but I hear you about the carpet thing, our house only has carpet in the bonus room, on the stairs, and in the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, everything else is tile or wood.

I hate carpet.

In this case it's not dust that's coming from the furnace, it's dust that's blowing in through the window when I have it open. During the winter or when it's cooler and I have the window closed it isn't a problem, but keep the window open a few days and there's a significant layer of dust on everything, so I figure I can stop it at the source (the window) while still keeping the window open to let the air in/out.

I thought dust consisted mostly of human skin cells?

What about something like THIS, but one that might have a filter?

I wouldn't recommend that exact make/model but something similar may do the trick for you.

Yeah that with filters would be something to try, haven't been able to find anything in Calgary though.

Are there stores that cater to allergy sufferers in Calgary?

I think what Kybosh is saying is if you turn your furnace on to circulate the air, it should cycle through the filter and that might help a bit...

Go for a air purifier with a HEPA filter, like that OREK one... A little pricier, but cleans the air in your home as well.

I guess, but the dust is thickest on the printer near the window, so mostly it's just air blowing in through the window and dropping dust, so by the time it leaves the office, goes down the cold air return, and through the filter it'll have dropped most of its dust load in my office already.

Hm yeah a room air purifier might help.

I think the dust is winning.

If you don't find a filter, the terrorists have won.

And I found this thread on Google while trying to search for a window fan with a filter...

Thanks Google.
