Default Awesome quote by Republican on New York Gay Marriage bill

LINK

Seriously, when the divorce rate for heterosexuals is over 50 percent anyone who opposes this legislation is a hypocrite and likely a bigot as well.

What does the divorce rate have to do with anything?

But nice of you to resort to insults for anyone whose viewpoint differs from yours. You should work on being more tolerant.

In which way is the legal civil union of two people threatening to other legally civilly united people?

Really.

Why do you care so much about what happens in a foreign country? It seems like posting this link was a pretense to insult people whose views differ from your own. That's a pretty hateful thing to do.

The quote was actually refreshing to hear from a politician, regardless of the country. Hence it being news and posted here. Additionally, what happens in the United States often effects what happens here in Canada. The two countries are not in a bubble from each other, American politics, economics, and culture bleeds over to Canada in both good and bad ways. As well, foreign policies of other countries are interesting to many people within this great dominion, nothing wrong with talking about, debating, and discussing ideas and philosophies of other countries, that's what we do here for fun and to progress intellectually as well. To put blinders on and ignore the rest of the world is actually a very dangerous exercise.

Secondly, Reggie commented on the topic being discussed in the article, and gave a quick side-quip about the issue the senator was discussing.

Just to expand what Reg was saying, think of this as being akin to explaining the joke:

One of the biggest arguments used against gay marriage is the "sanctity of marriage" argument. However if the heterosexual divorce rate is over 50% then clearly society doesn't give two flippin' flying flamingos about the "sanctity of marriage" therefore the argument is moot. If you disagree, unfortunately, you actually have to state a case and not simply accuse the poster of inciting hatred (although I will give props to the unique spin accusing an inclusive argument as being hateful).

*That Said*

If you wish to comment on the topic at hand, the state senator defying party politics and doing his job based on what he believes is the right thing to do, by all means comment and add to the discussion here.

If you wish to comment on the issue of gay marriage please go to the following thread and leave your comments and insights there: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=92456

Welcome to Calgary Puck

Sincerely,

Yeah, that's it. Because ideas and viewpoints can't be challenged.

Also there's a lot of American citizens on this forum, including myself.

Absolutely correct. Everyone is entitled to their own viewpoints.

PS. I'm very happy that I don't know you personally. It would make me sad.

I apologize for assuming you were Canadian. It was probably due to your location although your being American certainly explains a lot.

Did you never have a religious leader growing up tell you "love the sinner, hate the sin"? Probably not since if you'd had a more religious background you'd probably be less hateful.

Around here we are more the "hate the idiocy, love the idiot" kind of people.

Know that we love you.

The difference is that our love doesn't require us to try and deprive you of any rights.

I'm sorry you must have missed this: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...08&postcount=9 as you haven't commented upon it and done the opposite.

Now that I think about what you're saying I may have missed your point (in which case, my bad, I apologize and you may ignore my first paragraph). I naturally assumed that you were talking about gay-marriage and not political discourse.

According to your religious philosophies is it a mortal sin to have a politician vote against the party line if he/she believes that the party line is incorrect? Once elected is a politician forced into one viewpoint, and have to take the same stance on every single issue?
