Default Lawnmower Repair- where?

Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for where to take a gas mower for a tune-up / repair? Last year the mower seemed to really struggle, and changing the oil and the spark plug didn't really seem to help. It's about 5 years old so I would hope it still has some life left in it.

I'm in the SE in McKenzie Towne- so prefer something close to me.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Since you live deep in the SW of Calgary, I will pass this name along.

Ted Watkins 256-9668

He lives about a mile west of Red Deer Lake School along highway 22x and about 3 or 4 miles south. He does excellent work at extremely reasonable rates.

They don't make them like they used to, those old Briggs and Stratton would run until the the lawn mower rusted out ... Did anyone ever change the oil in one of those, ever... I don't think so.

I get home from work and the wife says "the mower just quit and I found this under it" she hands me a piece of metal, I look around hmm.. Then I see where it came from, the frickin connecting rod came right threw the block It was 1 1/2 yrs old.

Old gas is often the culprit, I have to pull the jets out of my weed whacker and see if I can clean them up, it's only got 1 summer on it and it won't run POS.

When I was a kid my friends and I had an old Briggs and Stratton engine from a go cart. We wanted to see what happens when an engine seizes so we drained the oil and started it up. We waited and waited and eventually got bored after about half an hour we just shut it off.

Yep, my mower hasn't been the same since I used the gas in jerry can my old neighbour left me when he moved out- after he told me the gas in it "was fine." I should have known better when I got two blank stares from him on my questions- first asking if his mower was two or four stroke; the second asking him if his mower needed oil mixed in.

Then after I take it to the dump, "wash" it out there with good gas from another can, he calls me and says he chenged his mind and wants the can back. So fine- whatever. Of course he never does come to get it back from me.

Try cleaning out the air filter with gas, you can also clean out the carb.

Thanks for the suggestions guys-- will definitely try cleaning the filter first. I think we used some old gas before I had read about anything which may be the root of the issues.
