A lot of those women should get into politics, they wanted to sit on the fence and not give a direct answer.
As for the women who wanted religion to be taught in school...........which one? Just the one you believe in, or all religions? My personal fave was the girl you said she thought 'bits and pieces' of evolution should be taught. lol.

Miss California won, Phil Plait was happy with that.
Agree with KFF, so many were fence sitters. I also thought it was funny how predictable a lot of the answers were based on what state they were from. The southerners were mostly either against teaching evolution or the "both sides" argument. Where as some of the North Easterners were all for teaching evolution. That being said a vast majority were fence sitters, to afraid to offend someone one way or the other.

It grinds my gears when people talk about evolution as a system of beliefs rather than a natural law like gravity. Evolution is not something that requires faith to function.

Yeah there needs to be a drinking game, hear "both sides" then take a shot.
After hearing the "both sides" answers, then the question should have been "Do you think that both sides of the round earth issue should be taught and kids be allowed to make up their own minds?".
Not to mention that it's not a case of "both sides", if you want to teach both the science and creation myths then you have to teach ALL the creation myths equally.
Oh what's that, you only want equal time when it's YOUR belief?...
I think the wedge strategy has succeeded to some degree in that it's created a false dichotomy in the minds of the public and placed a virtue in presenting this false dichotomy as if they were equally valid scientifically.
And that believing something is based completely on a desire to believe it.

Bachmann Promotes Creationism
http://theness.com/neurologicablog/i...s-creationism/
Now, following a speech to Republicans in New Orleans, she said to reporters:“I support intelligent design. What I support is putting all science on the table and then letting students decide. I don’t think it’s a good idea for government to come down on one side of scientific issue or another, when there is reasonable doubt on both sides.”
She is dead wrong, of course. There is no scientific controversy about the fact of evolution. The overwhelming majority of scientists support evolution – because the evidence for it is overwhelming. The controversy is entirely a political/religious one. This is embarrassing for Bachmann. I don’t expect every presidential candidate to be a scientist, or have any level of expertise in science. But I think in the 21st century we should expect a basic level of scientific literacy from our leaders. There are simply too many issues that require an understanding of science.

Totally OT:
Where do people learn to use Q.E.D. from? I'm pretty sure I didn't know what it meant before taking formal logic courses in uni, and the only other time I generally see it being used is to make silly points in online discussions.
Is that use just how people know it, or are there a bunch of people learning the meaning of QED out there in some other way?

The "Intelligent Design" argument in a nutshell:
1. ID is valid science.
2. Criticism of ID is religious discrimination.

QED = Quantum Electrodynamics!
I'm pretty sure I learned what Q.E.D. was from a math teacher in school.
