Default Calgary International Beerfest

Anyone going to this? Tix only $20 and looking forward to sampling and appreciating new beer.

From their beer list, I am looking forward to Chimay, the only Trappist beer to make an appearance.

^ I cant see the video. Blocked at work.

Besides, Calgary's beerfest just cannot compare with European beerfests. However, its still something to do in the city and I was genuinely wondering if any members of CP would be going.

Got a free ticket, so I guess I'll be going...the last time I went a few years ago, I wasn't really impressed.

Be prepared to spend another $40 or more on tokens just to try the beers.

Quote:
5. How do the sample tokens work at the event?

All beers & food can be sampled by purchasing Sample Tokens. Tokens are 50 cents a piece and sold in bundles of 10. Samples typically cost three sample tokens, but some imported beers may cost more. A sample of beer is legally 4oz, which is 1/3 of a bottle of beer.

So $4.50 to $6.00 for a bottle of beer.. plus 20 bucks to get in. Why not just go to Bottlescrew Bills?

Exactly. I went the first year when it was at SAIT and haven't been since. I like the idea of it but it is just way too expensive.

Has anybody ever completed the challenge of drinking each beer there (maybe not in one sitting)

Have you had their grilled Caesar salad? It's awesome.

Exactly. Beerfest sucks. You end up walking around in the ugly concrete jungle of the Big 4 building, paying $20 to get in to pay full price for beer, surrounded by yahoo 18 year olds.

Obviously some people have because they put your name on a plaque if you do it.

Yes sir! I have the mug and vest to prove it! Also my name is on the wall.

Took the entire year to do it. Usually about 2-4 per visit.

Man, you guys really get the shaft there. I went to a couple of beer festivals out east last year (one in NYC and one in NJ) neither of which cost more than $35 for as many free samples as you wanted. Heck, the NJ festival was pouring full pints for the last hour. It's sad that they seem to have found a way to kill all the fun out of what should be great events in Calgary with over-regulation.

I went last year, and like everyone said, it is really $$$... 20 to get in and I spent another 70 bucks on tix for beer and food.

Some of the less know beers can run like 5 tix. And finger food is all bought with the tix too.

I did have fun, but it closes down pretty early, so don't take to long to get down.

If you're not interested in going to the Beerfest (or if you just really love beer) a new bar/restaurant is opening soon, Craft Beer Market. It is where Mother Tuckers used to be.
They are going to have over 100 different beers on tap.

^Further to this there is a German Bar opening called "The Wurst" that will be a new German Beer hall in Mission.

I believe that is where the old Gasthaus restaurant was (which was Wildwood after that).

I've been watching that construction for a long time, trying to figure out what it was going to be! Thanks.
