I wouldn't want a financial institution that supports the Canucks touching my money.

I think the majority of Canadians, ie Casual fans are cheering fo the Canucks. But the real "true" hockey fans, the majority of them are cheering for
the bruins. However the casual fans outweigh the hardcore ones, so no, it's not a mistake.

Yea, brutal, they have been doing that for the final. Notice they don't mention the actual team, just talking about Canada. Obviously they mean Vancouver but they are trying to capitalize on patriotism of Canadians, an overflow from the Olympics last year. Many Casual fan Canadians will cheer for the Canadian team as they don't really care about the actual teams, rivalries or diving

Well, that or they're a major sponsor of hockey in Canada, regardless of the team...

I think you nailed it. I'm only a fan of hockey when the Flames are in the playoffs, which is when the party starts around here. I truly do not understand why all of you guys hate the Canucks so much - if I cared at all I'd probably cheer for them over Boston as I have more personal ties to Vancouver than Boston, but as it stands I don't care either way. As far as the ads go, I doubt pissing off a small minority of non-Vancouver fans that think this ad campaign actually matters will affect Scotia Bank at all.

Should the rest of Canada be offended that Jarome Iginla does the regular season scotiabank comercials.
Should the Cannuck fans be offended that Scotiabank also is cheering for the flames and Ottawa with the arena naming rights deals?
I don't get the hate on these boards for the whole Canada's team moniker. For the playoff / olympics patriotic hockey fan it is fun.
Unless you were complaining in 04 about the Moniker you shouldn't complain now. (Granted the flames were actually Canada's team instead of the second most hated team in all of sports)

Well, Vancouver is not Canada's hockey team.
But, this debate has been hashed multiple times already.
Their marketing is an affront to hardcore fans, and no-one else.

But all of Canada loves Iggy, even Canuck fans.
In fact, the only thing that will remove the stain of a Canucks Stanley Cup win this year, is to see Iggy hoist the cup in Flames red next season.
But yeah, I agree with you though

I have a choice of 7 banks to send my credit applications to. Since those commercials started, Scotiabank has got exactly 0.

So, is this how people felt when Kokanee called stated in a commercial "Dare to dream Calgary" during the '04?
Did sales of Kokanee go down in Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto?
I'm just as big a Flames fan laughing with every Boston goal. But I don't really care how a company handles their marketing. It's not a bash towards me. Its not hurting me or my family, and in the end, I doubt that a significant amount of money is going to the Canucks for it.
I've been screwed over by companies in the past for negligence, stupidity, and all around lack of caring. I'll avoid those companies before I put up a protest over a company that tries to cash in on some temporary hype.

This is good marketing. Most Canadians are cheering for Vancouver.
Last week I attended a conference (where Nenshi attended). There were several hundred people in a very large room when a guy at the podium reached under the podium and put on a Vancouver jersey. The room erupted in applause. We flew home when Game 5 was on and the plane's passengers erupted when Vancouver scored goals.
The die-hards (maybe 10%) support Boston, but of the rest of people are solidly in the Vancouver camp. If you have 90% of the 10% who are absolute die-hards supporting boston and 80% of the rest supporting Vancouver, that's a lot of people cheering for Vancouver. I've been having this conversation with quite a few people, and almost without exception everyone I've talked to is cheering for Vancouver. I realize that the people on these boards are cheering for Boston, but we're a very small minority.

Nenshi was tweeting that he pretty much had to wear the jersey. And felt better when he took it off.

I don't know, I live in NYC, they hate all things Boston here, and lots of the local fans are backing the Bruins due to the pathetic show the Canucks have put on with their soccer on ice antics. I find it very hard to beleive that only 10% of Canadians are supporting Boston. Heck, my facebook friends in Canada are probably 95% Boston fans for the week and most of them aren't hardcore hockey fans.

I was at a Boston Pizza for game 4 and there were loud cheers from pretty much everyone as Boston scored and when they won. Only one Vancouver jersey/fan in the place and it was packed. If 'Canada' is all pulling for the Canucks it certainly hasn't been in any of the places I've chosen to watch the game.

It would be foolish to let hockey affiliations to affect your finances. If it makes personal or business sense to do use services from Scotia Bank, then you do it regardless of whether or not they are using the Canucks for marketing purposes. Honestly, I think sometime people take it too far.

One of my friends is a dirty Canucks fan and he was at Deerfoot casino last friday and was the only guy that cheered when Van scored (according to him).
I do not believe that 90% of Canada is cheering for Vancouver. I'd bet it's more like 50/50 or 60/40 (for Van). Most people I know that are hockey fans are going for Boston. More specifically, cheering against Vancouver.
