Powerplay Quarterback

I have thought long and hard about this one and I keep coming back to the scene in Boogie Nights where Alfred Molina is smoking crack and listening to Sister Christian and Jesse's Girl (on his "awesome mix tape #6"). The pacing, acting and music in that scene blended together so damn perfectly that I am just blown away every time I watch that flick. The shot where the camera stays on Mark Wahlberg for a minute is unforgettable. I am anxious to hear from you guys and gals and what your favourite scenes are.

As always it is tough to pick just one, so I won't. Here's a few ones that come to mind:
- The scene in Grand Canyon when Danny Glover rescues Kevin Kline
- The last scene of Spike Lee's movie "The 25th Hour" (Brian Cox's monologue)
- The scene in The Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya finally kills the guy that killed his father
- The last fight in The Karate Kid
- The scene in The Iron Giant where the Giant rams the meteor
- The last sword fight in Rob Roy

The final scene in The Usual Suspects
The scene in Boondock Saints where the saints show up at that dude's poker game, then "Il Duce" and the Saints have a huge gunfight.

DR. LECTER ........
You're sooo ambitious, aren't you...?
You know what you look like to me, with
your good bag and your cheap shoes? You
look like a rube. A well-scrubbed, hust-
ling rube with a little taste... Good
nutrition has given you some length of
bone, but you're not more than one gen-
eration from poor white trash, are you -
Officer Starling...? That accent you're
trying so desperately to shed - pure
West Virginia. What was your father, dear?
Was he a coal miner? Did he stink of
the lamp...? And oh, how quickly the boys
found you! All those tedious, sticky
fumblings, in the back seats of cars,
while you could only dream of getting out.
Getting anywhere - yes? Getting all the
way - to the F...B...I.

The courtroom scene at the end of JFK was pretty mesmerizing, even if the movie was 3 hours too long
No one said the part where Bruce Willis swaps places with Ben Affleck in Armaggedon??? Pure tear-jerker :P

hmmmmm....
empire strikes back, after darth vader says, 'asteroids do not concern me admiral,'
and that huge asteroid knocks out the bridge of a star destroyer, and the next scene is the holographic image of a captain fizzling out.
un-heeded by vader, doesn't miss a beat.
or maybe, same movie, when the imperials are aboot to blast the shield generators on hoth (one wonders why they bother as the ground is theirs...), and they stop just to blast one hapless rebel runaway with a full-power blast.
i love it.
if they throw in fan-boy junk like 'oh we just have to have another yoda ass-kicking scene' in this next movie i am walking out of the theatre. that crap reminds me of 'star trek moments' in all the latest enterprise flicks, where someone usually says, 'to hell with our orders'.
stuff that movie-nit-pickers really want to see in movies, shouldn't EVER be in movies. if it was up to these guys every movie would be cut-and-paste of some cool moment they saw once, and don't realize is gone forever.
that goes for the 'vega brothers' movie that tarantino may have to make, and most probably army of darkness 4.

runner-up:
ash blasting that deadite over his shoulder with both barrels, not even looking, and blasting a 'wargasm'!
actually there's millions of moments in that movie, letalone the series - maybe ash laughing with the furniture in part 2 qualifies as well...
edit:
oops, movie is army of darkness, and evil-dead 2, respectively.

hmmm so many great scenes:
When Ilsa Lund walks into Ricks for the first time, Sam sees her and looks like he'd seen a ghost. She asks to play "As Days Go By" when he finally does after come coaxing, Rick comes over p*ssED, sees her, and then there's the whole breakdown, followed by the infamous "out of all the gin joint in all the world she has to walk into mine"
Batman, one of the opening scenes when he first appears on the roof, gets shot by two theives, the robbers laugh thinking that was easy, then Batman rises, kicks one guy through a door then holds the other over the edge of a roof. "whaa.whaat are you?" "I'm Batman" then throws the guy back onto the roof and walks over the edge to dissapear. Classic
Maximum Overdrive had so many, the first scene in the city by the bank where machines start to take control of themselves and start telling people off. Or when the Coke machine kills the entire little league baseball team except the catcher because he's holding his mask over his face (and his hand is covering the mask) or the ending, the ending was classic!
The Scene in Signs when Mel Gibson realizes all the bad things in life are there to protect him from the biggest tradegy of all (the death of him and his family)
The scene in Swordfish with Halle Barrie and the book
Yoda lightsaber fight is a given
The first scene where we see Darth Vader, when the storm troopers come out, shoot up the place, the smoke clears and there's Vader. First time I watched it after getting out dog, Turk (the dog) when NUTS, barking and growling at the TV as if Vader was there for us.
Staying on the Star Wars topic, in Episode I, when Qui Gone Gin (I know that's spelled wrong, sorry Star Wars gurus) uses the Jedi mind trick on the Gungan leader but they never actually draw attention to it, nor do they ever reference it was done, just the hand movments, and him being agreeable all of a sudden.
I'm sure there's one's I'm missing, but all in all, there's some of my favs. All time favourite? I dunno, tough to decide.

Max's second play in Rushmore, the one set in Vietnam.
American Splendor, where he collapses, unconscious, and then delivers an incredible monologue on the other Harvey Pekkars in the phone book.
Penultimate scene in Signs, where everything comes together--the water, the baseball, the athsma. Best M Night Shyamalan moment, in my opinion.
The ride of the Rohiran in LoTRRotK. Absolutely fantastic battle sequence.
End of Hard Core Logo.

Two words: Matrix, Lobby.
I set my stereo with that scene everytime I move it around.
Honorable mention:
- The scene in Down To You where Freddy Prince Jr. drinks the shampoo. I stop the movie at that point and convince myself he died. The world would be a better place without Freddy Prince Jr.
- The speeder bike scene. Best of the 6 (so far).
- The music montage in South Park where they blend all the songs together. There's something about the Devil singing; "where babies burp and flowers bloom".
- Eziekel 25-17. 'Nuff said.
Trying to think of others.

Oh god, there are a lot
Storming the beach on saving Private Ryan
The final confrontation in Platoon with the Napalm falling around them
When the Millenium Falcon makes its mistake at the end of Empire Strikes back, and Vader stares out the window, and you can just feel him thinking 'unbelievable', while Admiral Piet stands behind him with the old 'oh shinguard' look on his face. Then Vader walks right by him, sparing him.
The Darth Maul vs Obiwan final fight in PM, too short by any stretch
The Royal with cheese debate.
Pretty well any scene in Army of Darkness.
The Bomb dropping scene in Dr Stranglove.
The final march past in Glory as they're on thier way to taking on Fort Wagner.
Kelly Preston kicking Tom Cruise's ass in Jerry Mcquire.
Michael Madison torturing the cop in Resovoir Dogs (come on you have to look the dance steps)
the Devil plotting in Prophesy.
There are so many.
The Emperors entrance in Return of the Jedi, you can just feel the malice in him.

Wow, what a tough choice......
The "Do you feel lucky?" speech in Dirty Harry (either time is good)
The time when Indy sees the Knight in "The Last Crusade"
Any scene in Pulp Fiction with Jules
But I think the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is my fave.

In Return of the Jedi when Luke surrenders himself to Vader and Vader says "So, you've constructed a new lightsaber. Your training is now complete"
In Episode I after Qui-Gon get's killed and it's just Obi-Wan and Darth Maul waiting for the force field to drop before they just go nuts lightsaber style... the correography of that sequence is second to none.
The End of The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
There are many, many more but those stick out to me for some reason this morning.
