Panthers bring in Cole and Handzus - EDIT Malone Too...

A pair of trades have seen a couple of solid 2nd line players come to Florida.

Here's how the lines break down

3 prospects (Mitchell, Curry and Marquardt, the latter two have been released)

I sacrificed a bunch of my depth players and prospects in order to get a couple good 2nd liners for next year.

Burish-Steckel-Hall
Martin-Spaling-Darche/Petersen/Mair (depends on the re-rates)

Still not quite done yet, but it's getting there.

Panthers have also acquired Ryan Malone and 1.5 mil from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for NYR's 1st and 3rd round picks in 2012.

This now fills our roster fairly solidly, while allowing for me to add later on in the season.

Well, that's already been done, I have over 1/3 of the 5th round next year.

It was tough to let Handzus go, he was a big reason my team did so well this past season. But I was worried that he wouldn't find his form again and I'd be stuck with him for 2 more years at $6.00 mill per.

So we bring in Salei to shore up the D. He's expensive but he's UFA after this season. I'm really happy to bring in Powe, he is one of my favorite players and will be a welcome addition as a depth/4th line guy. Pelley is depth, but I always like to have Devils guys on the team.

What I'm really happy about is bringing in Cory Emmerton, a player I've kept an eye on for a couple years. Detroit knows how to develop young guys and I think he's going to be a solid 2nd line player in the next couple years. I'll have to be patient (as I was/am with Abdelkader) but in the end I think moving Handzus for him will be a positive move.
