Icon40 Penguins offseason progress report

Completed Transactions:

To Pittsburgh: Henrik Sedin + 5.5mill

To Philly:
  1. Kulyemin, Nikolai (RW) NHL
  2. De Haan, Calvin (D) ECHL
  3. 2011 1st Round Draft Choice (phi)
  4. 2012 2nd Round Draft Choice (phi)
  5. 2012 2nd Round Draft Choice (pit)
Reasoning: Our ECHL is crowded with top end talent so I feel that the chance to add arguably the best center in the NHL over the past 2 seasons was worth sacrificing some solid picks and a big time prospect.

To Pittsburgh: Niklas Grossman

To Columbus: Tuomo Ruutu

Reasoning: We add a surplus of top 6 forwards and a lack of solid . This was simply a positional swap.

To Pittsburgh:
Alain Berger

To Florida:
Roster spot

Reasoning: Berger is a longterm project but his big frame is something the NHL Habs could use so we felt he was worth a gamble on.

Released:

Roman Hamrlik
Marek Scwartz

Reasoning: Neither guy is in our plans for next year so we figured we should let them both hit free agency.

Current trade block:

Tomas Plekanec - looking for high end youth and picks. Would consider guys who are CPHL roster guys as well.

Zdeno Chara - would move him for a star young dman or a good young dmen + pick(s) or prospect(s).

As usual no player is ever "Untouchable" but I will focus on finding a home for these 2 guys first. PM any offers or catch me on msn.

The Pens have made a minor move to add some grit to the bottom 6th. The Pens sent the 62nd overall pick to the Sharks for David Clarkson. We like the toughness that Clarkson brings. We needed a guy who could add toughness and still light the lamp on occasion and Clarkson fits that role. Thanks to therizzle for the easy trade.
