Laserdiscs
Thanks to fundmark19, I am now the proud owner of a Laserdisc player. It's just one of those things I've always wanted to own. No other way to explain.
I know they're outdated, but has anyone seen any discs for sale in Calgary? I've kept my eye on Kijiji, and on Ebay. Nothing is striking my fancy there. Ebay seems to have a mandate on charging $20 for shipping. Would rather find something locally and just pay for it.
Is Tramps still around? Does Video and Sound still sell them?

I watched Stargate on Laserdisc. I think it was 3 discs. I had no idea people still looked for these, but I suppose it's similar to those diehard 8-track fans.

I'd actually rather have a betamax than a laserdisc player. Alternating between flipping the disc and changing the disc every 30 minutes or whatever would drive me bonkers.

Soooo... back to the original topic... has anyone seen any of these for sale in their travels in Calgary?

I remember seeing a few for sale in the discount bin at Sam the Record man, and I was thinking, WOW, they still have these things in stock!!!
unfortunatley for you, I believe that was in 1999.
I wouldn't doubt it if there's a place out there that collects and sells these things.
Give Recordland a call (if they haven't gone out of business yet)

I noticed a small laser disc section at Recordland last time I was there. Worth a try...but maybe call first just to make sure I have my facts straight.

I know the BMV used bookstores in Toronto have a lot of laserdiscs but there's nothing in Calgary that I know of.

A friend borrowed my LD player a few years ago; and seeing as he actually uses it I haven't asked for it back. So my info may be out of date.
However back in "the day"- Video & Sound in Chinatown was the place to get LDs.

I still have quite the laser disc collection, not thinking of selling them though. Quite a few karaoke discs, those are really the only ones I play from time to time, otherwise not worth it. The quality is tremendous, well as good as analog NTSC will ever look, but compared to the high-def stuff now, yea.
One thing about the laser disc format, the sound is excellent.

If you can find some Crystal Pepsi it would become the best weekend anyone could think of. . . . in 1991.

Video and Sound was the last frontier for LDs in Calgary as far as I know. They went out of business over a year ago.

I bought over 120 LDs from them when they were blowing them out 7-8 years ago.
They even gave me one of their sony players. one that had auto reverse and you didnt' have to flip the disc! hehe.
Sorry but i don't have any of that stuff left.
