Probably all the fires in Northern Alberta, since the wind is blowing pretty good from the North. It didn't rain nearly as much up there, if at all.

I work close to the giant fire up north and it is pretty crazy how smokey it has been.

Winds shifted from the northern fires. It's bad just south of Grande Prairie and Grovedale too.

You actually wonder where the smoke is coming from????
You do realize a freaking city burned down last week right?

OK guys- I think the OP really had a fair question. No- he didn't word it "With all the smoke that is blowing into Calgary; is that from the fires up north that are 500 km away? Or are there fires burning much closer to Calgary that haven't made the news because it isn't as sensational when it's just 100's of hectares of trees and not a town burning?"
Not everybody is "up" on the facts about forest fires, how far smoke travels, weather systems and wind directions; so they come to the place that is usually a wealth of info- CalgaryPuck.

It's amazing how far smoke can travel. I can recall, as a kid growing up in Toronto, seeing the effects in the sky of huge grass fires burning on the Prairies.

Nine or ten years ago I remember seeing the effects of smoke from some massive fires in Siberia.
