So it took roughly 40 years for PCs to become available after the first computer.

Do we expect the transition from Quantum computer to Quantum PC to be longer or shorter than 40 years?

$10 million 40 years ago bought you a 138 megaflop Cray-1 supercomputer. Can we actually estimate the power of the DWave One quantum computer by any available metric? Maybe in exaflops?

Measured in a similar way to a Cray, it'd probably be the other way, measured in kiloflops or even flops, unless for a specific problem. Useless for most stuff, crazy for a very specific thing.

And I guess it's questionable if this even will offer that crazy speedup for specific things, since there's no entanglement going on (or wasn't, maybe there is now).

Some more reading (which I hardly even understand half the words, let alone the implications):

WANT!
I can just see all the geeks at Lockheed Martin standing around this thing in circle, giggling, touching it in disbelief and refusing to go home for the weekend.

It's worth mentioning that D-Wave Systems is a Canadian company.
