The Official 2010/11 Thread for the English Cups & Football League
In order to reduce clutter and provide a place to discuss some of the smaller tournaments and clubs, I thought I'd create this all-inclusive thread. It could cover, to name a few, the:
FA Cup
Carling Cup
nPower Championship
nPower League One
nPower League Two

If last season League One was all about fallen giants rising from the ashes of recent disappointments, then Sheffield Wednesday will hope history repeats itself as they bid for an immediate return to the Championship
Wednesday suffered the heartache of relegation on the final day of last season after a dramatic duel with Sheffield Wednesday saw the Eagles soar over the Owls, but Alan Irvine will draw heart from the fact both Norwich and Leeds made light of being the league's prize scalps last term.
Irvine's men will be amongst the title favourites but it will be far from plain-sailing to escape from a division that houses several sides with lofty ambitions.

And most importantly, IIRC Charlton is the only League One club being supported by some of the members here that won today! What a way to start, already putting some distance between us and the rest of the pack.

Yep, hard as it is for me to say, but well done on Charlton's win.
I listened to the whole game on local radio. Sounded like a pretty uneventful first half which Bournemouth didn't even turn up to.
Second half we came alive a bit, and had a couple of decent chances to equalise, especially when Semedo got sent off (a little bit harshly I think).
I would have taken a 1-0 defeat beforehand, so I don't think it's the worst result in the world for the Cherries. Second half display was pretty encouraging.
Onwards and upwards - next stop Southampton in the Carling Cup...

Ha, actually I follow Yeovil Town along with Sunderland, and they got off to a pretty good start yesterday as well against Leyton Orient. Funny, they're almost always picked as relegation battlers but for such a small club they've done pretty well the past few seasons in League One, always making a few good signings every season and really using the loan system to their advantage, and they even made the League One playoff final in 2007 only to lose to Blackpool.
^ Except when they tried to claim that former manager Russell Slade had his contract terminated due to allegations of gross misconduct and then backed down when lawyers got involved.
Javier Hernandez scored his first goal for United in the Shield and it has to be an instant candidate for goal of the year.

Bloody Hove, always sodding things up! The first time I ever attended a match at the Valley where the Addicks lost was when we played B&H last season. They have cemented a place in my footballing history.

Seems Southampton's front office have decided to ban all photographer's from matches in attempt to force the press to purchase photos from an "official" source. Predictably it has blown up in their faces, with this rather hilarious result.
I wonder what kind of season the Albion would have had if their League One, second-worst home record had been better than 7W-4D-12L. Decent away record though. But if anyone has ever had the misfortune of going to the Withdean, their poor home performances come as little surprise.
The new 22,500 seater at Falmer will be most welcome.
That 2-1 away win at the Valley was voted as the Albion's match of the '09-10 season.
Sometimes consistency is not a good thing... After blowing a three goal lead the Addicks are, for the third time in a row, out of the Carling Cup after the first round. Now we can concentrate on the more important Paint Pot!
