Default Moving Jobs - Tips For Saying Goodbye

I have accepted a new position and provided my resignation to my current employer.

I am looking for suggestions on how to say Thank-you to the (approximately) 20 teammates that I'm leaving behind. Perhaps ordering in lunch, or a small gift/sweet and a personalized card?

I'd like to do something nice, but not over the top. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Organising a lunch would be about as generous as I would get, and even then I would let someone else organise it.

Bringing in donuts, cookies, lunch, etc. is always appreciated. Maybe something where people will remember your name by, like a big tin saying: "cookies by WilsonFourTwo", etc.

It depends. What is the nature of the business? Who are your co-workers? What was your position?

Shouldn't the employer be buying you the meal?

I would do a generic card and leave it at that.

More likely I prefer to quietly leave because I'm never going to deal with 95% of those people again, and at some point your going to be buried and blamed for everything.

They're your co-workers not your friends.

That's true, I suppose......particularly the buried and blamed bit (its inevitable).

I suppose the standard "thank you sweets" in the kitchen is the right/appropriate response.

thanks all!!

Yeah, keep it minimal and light.

Sweets or a hand written card to people who maybe made your life a little easier is the most you need to do.

Don't get carried away with ordering lunches or cakes or whatever, it makes you look like your actually going to miss working there.

Maybe choose one morning where you stop in at a bakery and pick up a nice box of fresh pastries and cookies. Beats a box of Tims donuts, that's for sure.

I wouldn't do anything beyond that though.

If they aren't taking you out for lunch on your way out, you shouldn't be taking them. Just saying.

Make sure you tell everyone about the wonderful new opportunity you have and make sure you itemize each way your new company is better than your former company. People love to hear how green the grass is on the other side.

I had a leadership position and was well supported by my colleagues, which probably helped blur the line between friend and co-worker.

In retrospect, its best if I just leave as quietly as possible.

I think its best if you leave quietly the inevitable discussion will always come to your new position and then no matter what you say it sounds like your throwing it in their face.

Leave through the backdoor as quietly as possible, make sure that you take everything so that you don't have to hammer the backdoor to get back in.

otherwise, grab as much intellectual capital and office supplies as possible......

I will say if possible keep the news under wraps until your last day, then send a group e-mail around lunch time thanking your co-workers over the years and keep in touch, etc. Bring in some cupcakes or fresh pastries to show your appreciation. Then just leave quietly.

If people invite you for a drink afterwards, then drink you a$$ off...

If these are people who helped you out at your current place, I think you can send out an email to them, thanking them for the things they did while working under your supervision, and wish them all the best in the future. I wouldn't go too over the top though. I usually don't tell others I'm leaving a job until the last day when tell them good luck and have a nice life. By the way heres a heaping pile of things I didn't do in the last two weeks while I mailed it in that you guys can now do.

Just add them all to Linkedin and get them better, higher-paying jobs working with you at your new place! I'm sure they'd appreciate that.

Tell everyone you are leaving. If they don't take you out for lunch or whatever, well, they probably didn't like you anyways.
