Default Weed Control

Did some searching around the City website and couldn't find anything stating a bylaw against using weed spray.
Now I know they have changed the type of spray available at stores but am unsure if there is a bylaw against using some or all of previously purchased products.
The reason I ask is I have a neighbor who is talking about spraying the weeds at his residence without the yard developed and the weeds have gotten out of control on him.

That is pretty much his plan. Would like to give him a heads up if it could get him in trouble. I personally don't really care and would be happy if he got rid of his eyesore weeds.

i don't think there would be a problem, they sell it in the stores so I assume it's ok.

concentrated roundup is the bomb!!!!

i had a rock path with a crap load of weeds - i did "thin" it out a bit, but the mix i was using was probably 4-5x stronger than what the directions said....

the weeds started to wilt in about 30 minutes - AWESOME!!!!!

Killex does not hurt grass, unless of course you use a very concentrated mix. Killex is effective on broadleaf plants.

Use a salt & water solution for stand alone weeds (sidewalks, driveways etc).

Keep away from grass and gardens.

Do any of the outlying communities still sell weed and feed?

If there is no grass and just weeds, make sure he is using something strong like RoundUp and not something designed to work with grass.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a bylaw against actually using Weed and Feed. I think the bylaw is for the selling of it. So if you had bought Weed and Feed last year, or you picked some up from another town, you can still use it on your lawns.

The ban is Alberta wide. There is one type of Weed and Feed available which is corn gluten based. Red bag by Scott's.

The ban does make a lot of sense. Weed and Feed is way over applied as most people would buy it even though all they really needed was the feed part. Broad application pre-emergent herbicides work against you in a lot of ways especially when used in the spring. Fall overseeding works way better than weed and feed. If it does runoff, it keeps everything from germinating.

For spot treatment on lawns, use Killex.

For clearing all vegetation, use RoundUp. Don't buy the "eco" versions though, you would having better luck killing the weeds by yelling at them.
