Surprised some of the nerds of CP hasn't started a thread about Thor yet.
Just got back from a matinee of a movie that I thought looked pretty stupid, and was pleasantly surprised.
I know nothing of the comics, I didn't even know who Thor was until all the Avengers talk after Iron Man came out. I have no idea if the movie was true to the comics, but I don't care. I enjoyed the story and truly had fun watching this movie.
Chris Hemsworth was very slick. Funny when he had to be, serious when it was called for and he pulled it off. Natalie Portman had her moments, but a couple times came across as the annoying scientist.
Would have liked to have seen more of Thor with full powers fighting on Earth, but that would be my only complaint.
For fans of The Wire, check out Stringer Bell(Idris Elba) in a ridiculous costume as the gate keeper.
I was debating on going this weekend, thanks for the review I am going to go see it this weekend. I like you am not too familiar with the comics apart from the Avengers, so I don't have any expectations.
Honestly, I would rather watch an hour and a half film about our own Thor than this movie.
Not my bag at all and I've seen trailers five or six times now in the theater.

All I can think about when I see the commercials on TV and hear them on radio, is the Conan version with the guy with the high voice.

Had to see it in regular theatre. I had a cornea transplat a couple weeks ago and my vision in my left is just not there yet and seeing it in 3D would be pointless for me. I would just be an idiot wearing horrible glasses.
I will say however that while I was watching the movie, I never once thought that the movie would be better in 3D. Maybe a couple of the scenes where they are travelling from realm to realm might have been cool, but outside of that, 3D wouldn't have added to the experience for me. I do have a bias against 3D and hopes it goes away soon, but I don't think it will.
