Default Edmonton Commonwealth Stadium Parking

I'm driving up to the Commonwealth Stadium to see U2. The newspaper advices people to take transit. But I just wonder if I can drive to the stadium and park a few blocks out and walk. Sort of like parking around the side streets around 24 ave NW when going to the McMahon. Thanks.

This. Or park by the University and do the same.

Commonwealth is terribly designed in terms of parking, there's no actual, legit "parking lot" there, which of course completely eliminates tailgating. Makes sense for a football stadium, right?

There's a neighbourhood right across from the stadium, so while I'd still say LRT is by far the better option, if you really want to drive, many people in this neighbourhood rent out their driveways for the event, and many will have signs advertising as much. Just drive down some of the alleys in this residential area and keep your eyes peeled for them. Seeing as there's no parking lot though, many people do what I just mentioned, so especially for U2, I'd get there well before showtime if you want a shot at getting one.

x2 I go to the Labour Day rematch game there every year and I seriously cannot contemplate how 60,000 people manage to get there without a sizable parking lot (McMahon's parking lot is much bigger despite having just over half the seating capacity). The parking lot actually at the stadium is the size of a strip mall's. The immediate area surrounding it is residential, thus parking is very difficult.

I wouldn't leave my car anywhere near Commonwealth, but that is just me. Park at U and take the train.

Yup I definitely agree with the LRT idea, have been to many games at Commonwealth and while there are places to park on the street in residential areas around the stadium its pretty risky. I think out of the 3 times i've parked there my vehicles only been towed once but being hammered and trying to remember where exactly you parked isn't fun. Plus once you do find out you've been towed its a bitch finding a cab and the impound lot.

Actually city bylaws are what completely eliminates tailgating.

I'm taking the LRT tonight too, and it's gonna be a gongshow, especially going home.

And driving home hammered? - or am I simply reading that incorrectly?

Park by Heritage mall (23av 97 St) and take the Train - no transfer. The enforcement around Commonwealth at least for Football games is very tight, also the area around Commonwealth reminds me a bit like Forest Lawn here where parking on side streets might find you without a car to come back to.

Ya its definitely a shady area. My dad always likes parking in there for some reason, I would personally not want to do it though, if it were my ride.
