Question Home Theatre Projector

How many people on CP have this sorta set up in their house?

I'm just beginnng to look into it myself and do some research and trying to figure out a lot of things on a budget (and yes it's quite a budget).

I'm trying to get a projector, mounting, screen, receiver, speakers for under $2,000, 2,500 max if need be.

Can this be done? Haha. I just don't have that much cash laying around to go all out and get all top end stuff.

Some basic things, I'd like the projector to be 1080P, the screen anything larger than 90" I guess and as for the receiver and speaker I'm not picky at all as I want my HDPVR, 360, and PS3 to run on this basically so as long as it can handle those I'll be good to go.

CP faithful is this possible, thoughts, ideas, resources? Oh and I was going to ask I've found some deals online for used ones, any thoughts on buying used (projector, receiver, speakers etc.)?

I saw this one that had some decent reviews:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...31447(ME).aspx

Someone on kijiji listed that for a hundred bucks cheaper but would include the mounting bracket and would install it for me too (it has 230 hours used on it).

Anyway any help/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated CP faitful, thanks.

There are a couple really good threads on here all ready. Look through them and you should find some answers or bring them back from the dead no use having another thread

There are a couple of good threads on this in Tech Talk...the best one probably being the Home Theater Mega Thread.

I think I have the projector you're looking at and I also bought mine at Memory Xpress. I love it. My only complaint is the lens cap - you have to be careful not to adjust the focus on the lens when you put the cap on and take it off. An automatic cap would be way better.

I think you can get a decent set-up with your budget, but you'll have to buy your screen online (fundmark and I both bought our screens at www.tigerdirect.ca) as any screens in Calgary seem to be way too expensive. There's also a good place online to buy your receiver - check out www.electronicsforless.ca. They are based out of Toronto. I bought my receiver through them and I know Photon has bought some stuff from them, too.

Here's my set up:

I recently (January) purchased a projector and screen from eastporters.com.

I bought the Epson Home Cinema 8350 (1080p) and have been very impressed so far. I bought a 108" motorized screen and ceiling mount from them at the same time.

I was able to get all 3 items including shipping to my door for less than $2000.

I would recommend them.

The projector is amazing! Beautiful clear picture, bright even when there is ambient light in the room too.

It is one of the projectors in the "sweet spot" of price and performance.

And lucky for you it has actually gone down in price by about $150 since I bought it.

Also, regarding the DLP projector you are looking at...I dont believe it has horizontal or vertical lens shift capabilities which will make setup a bit more difficult.

The 8350 has both, and is a bit quieter than the DLP projectors.

Either way you go though you are gonna love it. Bang for your buck is outstanding compared to what you would pay for the biggest Plasma/LCD TV's out there.
